>meaningless words and purple prose. I love:
>clever use of RHYTHM and wordshape in any form, >dual meanings,
>allegorism,
>basic words positioned to create complex meaning,
>passion and excitement. I'm sure there will be lots of interesting and diverse writing, and I'm really looking forward to reading them all. I would also really like it if you could put my birthday (31st May) in your author notes, just to show that you have looked through and thought about at least one of the things I have written. Happy poeting! Ladame x
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on June 1, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 4 people
- Final notes: I really enjoyed reading and commenting on every single one of the 40 entries I received. My birthday was a fab day, by the way, and the poetry only helped to kick-start another creative year for me.
Gold: Polar Rose - very powerful, and really quite personal. Although the subject matter made me cringe, the beauty of the words, and incredible concept really sold this piece to me. Great construction, great concept.
Silver: Oranges and Icy Flakes - the simplicity and power of carefully-chosen words really made it for me, I had to read it over and over.
Bronze: Gingerbread Boys - I was so shocked that someone used the photo, not having considered that as an option myself, and the poem really stood out to me in concept - watch out, boys.
All the honourable mentions were quite outstanding too...
And the others, well, there were some really special ones - very well-crafted - that just didn't appeal to me quite so much, either in form, or in implication. I thank you ALL for sharing your work with me.
End of essay.

Happy birthday and congrats on your first contest, hope you get many great entries...and hold many more great contests

Cindy -
can we only enter the once?
-
I have only opened it to one entry each, but I might increase it a bit later when I see if I get a large number of entries - little bit scared of getting a tonne, but I want to see some more super-good ones, so perhaps I'll have to keep the numbers big!
