Prompt Contest (A-B)

Below are quotes from songs to be used as prompts. I hope you'll look at them and write a poem on them. When I judge, I will be looking that all aspects of the prompt are in the poem. I do not like rhyme, however, I will allow it. Please, spare me the crap rhyme, and expect honesty. I will tell you if I don't like it. I will comment on all entries, however, I will start commenting after the contest closes which will happen when I decide I have enough entries. I like for there to be about 20. I will write about three paragraphs on each poem, so expect a thoughtful comment. I really do bother to read what I'm commenting on and judging. I look for all things. Does it strike me emotionally? Does it use things such as alliteration, couplets, is it in the form of a sonnet? Most importantly, does it use the prompt aptly? I also love creativity. The more creative the poem, the more likely I am to overlook lacking in other departments.

If you do not read the rules, I will completely overlook your poem and not bother to read it.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on July 18, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 4 people
  • Final notes:
I apologise for the delay everyone. I'm usually not this terrible. Life has been hectic, but it's finally calmed down. Thank you all so much for entering, and this by far was the best contest I've had.

As for the finalists, I chose "Just another breath (Did you save me)" due to the creativity and the thought in it. It's a very interesting poem to read, descriptive and wonderfully strong. It's emotional, as well as touching into political aspects of the world. It touches a bit of everything.

The second one I chose was "November". This is a beautiful poem, powerfully emotional, very descriptive, and wonderfully written. It had an emotional draw that I didn't find in the other poetry, as well as some strong metaphors.

The third one I chose is "What is...". I think this was the most creative poem in this contest. I would suggest reading it. It's very thoughtful, very interesting, and I LOVED the interpretation of a prompt that was a bit hard. It's not one that I could overlook.

I will be opening another contest after this one. It will be the same thing, with fifty quote prompts, and I hope that you all enter. Thank you for entering this one and good luck in future contests! Most importantly, don't stop writing!
