The Mixer - Part II

A mixer is a kind of participation dance which allows dancers to meet new partners; at certain moments new pairs are formed in a random way.

For this contest you will place the name of a dance as the title of your poem. (Please choose something different from the others.)

Under your poem title of, for example, WALTZ, quickly dash down a list of words, short (one line) thoughts or whatever occurs to you. At least five items. They may have nothing to do with dancing whatsoever.

Each day, for the first five days, you must come back in and add to your lists and review the other dancer's lists. If you see a word, concept, quote, or line that you like, you may reserve it and add it to your own author's notes. Please write May I have this dance? in the dancer's comments along with which item you are reserving.

Remember to update your dance cards every day and check out the other dancers. You are free to choose as many items as you'd like.

On the sixth day (May 23), you may write your poem using the info you have collected and placed in your author's notes. You will not be using your own lists -save them in your author's notes when you write your poem.

Be prepared to join another Mixer already in progress. You will have two chances for the gold here, as I will be awarding Gold for best poem and for best list inspiring other dancers.

Have fun!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on May 23
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 75, Bronze: 75
  • Final notes:
I counted the claims and to avoid confusion with any latecomers who may sneak a poem in on the last day, am closing this with our top dance cards. Silver and bronze are a tie at 14 but since azure's was a "perfect" card with all dance moves claimed, I shall award the silver to her. Great fun, everyone, thank you for participating and I look forward to reading the poems as they come in...

  • Putting on my dancing shoes. I can't resist though I don't quite understand the instructions. It will come clear as we go along, I'm sure.

Thank you, azure. Your list was by far my favorite one and in fact, I was tempted to add a third part to this contest so we could all write the poem our own lists provoked. I thought yours was almost a complete poem as it stood.
