In Arovell's head (yes, that would be my head
), there are two political factions.
The "Guard-Your-Hearts" keep me safe. They make me a generally shy person, keep me from taking stupid risks. They help me not to get in over my head on certain things, and avoid being too idealistic and naive.
The "Carpe Diems" are the ones who drive me to act. They are the ones who drive me to speak when I need to. They drive me to be the best person I can possibly be and keep following dreams, even without so much idealism.
Here's the Prompt:
Write me a poem advocating the viewpoint of one of these factions, preferably on LOVE. Do I keep myself safe, or do I seize the day?
Poems with realism and disillusionment would be good support for Guard Your Heart, and you can channel your inner Richard Lovelace and Sir John Suckling for Carpe Diem if you want >.< (Yay Dead Poet's Society)
Rules:
1. Follow the prompt, please.
2. Brownie points for poets who comment on one of my poems! =) I need comments.
3. Have fun! & think.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on June 13, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50
- Final notes: WINNERS:
First place goes to "One Wanders on and Wonders Much" for mystifying use of all things poetic. This poems whispers its vote, Carpe Diem, with strength.
Second place goes to "Used." Guard Your Heart was underrepresented, yet this poem's impact shouted its argument loud enough to make up for that.
Third goes to "Bed of Roses" because it's simply and absolutely an amazing poem, and I can't really argue that it doesn't qualify.
Some Honorable Mentions are "Chances," for poetic elements, and "An Adequate Vocal Gesture," for impact.
And at last, the final tally:
GUARD YOUR HEART: 2
CARPE DIEM: 7
(I DQed one vote for fogginess.)
Carpe Diem trounces Guard Your Heart. Make of it what you will, and so will I....
Thanks to all who entered! Keep Writing!

Isn't it possible to be both? You can be sociable and guard you heart...or quiet and seize the day...or give the impression you seize the day when you don't...

Absolutely.
