‘The Pearlcon’ a competition with a challenge by fransb

I do not know if I have a new poem form here, and would appreciate your comments. In the meantime, I have coined this free style poem form ‘The Pearlcon’.

The Pearlcon
• A three free style stanza form
• Stanza one: serves as an orientation [2 – 3 lines]
• Stanza two: poses a question related to the orientation [1 – 2 lines]
• Stanza three: provides an answer in question form with emphasis on a positive outcome [principle or thought; spiritual or non-spiritual] [3 – 4 lines]
Important:
o the poem must relate nature to the human condition or vice versa
o each stanza must link nature with human nature / condition
o Stanza two and three must portray the human condition within imagery of nature and the final stanza must depict the opposite of nature relating it to a positive outcome [principle of healing]

You are invited to write a poem using the form that has been described. Here follows an example:

Sundown on Smiles

… and within the dusk of nightfall,
twilight seems to weave a collage of despair.

Why then that when the sun fades
smiles enter into sundown?

Is there not the knowing
that within the composition of dawn
Hope has always been there?

The link to this poem is: http://allpoetry.com/poem/4218441
Please comment on both the poem and its form. I will appreciate this.

The rules are:
1. No dirty language.
2. No wriTinG like this.
3. No erotica.
4. No bashing.
5. No dark poetry, cutting, etc.
7. One poem per person.
9. Check for spelling, and make extra sure that the form is used. I do not want to disqualify anyone.
10. Although anonymous, you may comment on each others write.

I hope that you will enter and enjoy this competition. I intend, depending on the number of entries to add points to make your effort worthwhile.

Update
I have been asked not to use the wording 'The Pearl' as a 'name' for my proposed poem form, as it refers to a specific poem with the same title. For this I apologise. I now refer to the form as "The Pearlcon" to denote the 'ourcome' and 'human condition' link.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on May 26
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 150, Bronze: 75, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:
While this contest did not attract many entries, I did receive excellent entries. The form allows opportunity for ‘positiveness’, and that is what I received. Originally I had in mind that only nature and human behaviour [thoughts, feelings and choices] should be linked; however, I also received poems with a spiritual content, and this is an indication that one should never ‘restrict’ either the poem as product or the poet as ‘expressionist’.

It goes without saying that the decision to award the top three positions was difficult. Each of the entries was special. Although HMs are in no particular order, I have decided to invite three of the contestants to re-submit their poems. I shall be contacting you shortly.

Thank you so much for participating and allowing me to experiment with this form.

In view of the fact that "The Pearl" is the title of one of the most famous poems in Middle English, and that the said poem has a very complex style of rhyme and alliteration, I feel that using the same name for the free-verse style you have invented might lead to some confusion and misunderstanding!

      Just for the record

to those that might read this, I have reconsidered the name, and changed it to 'The Pearlcon' signifying the 'that what emanates from a pearl'. Once again, Vera, thank you. Frans

    Gee Frans

Such advanced poetry for me. I feel honored you asked me to look at your contest. It would take me forever to figure out how to put a poem in this advanced form of very intellectual format. Thank you for having faith in me where my confidence and self esteem surely lack. I look forward to reading this fine poets poetry in your increadible contest.
    Many Blessings
    Much Love
