Persona Poems.

"The Greek word "persona" means mask. In dramatic poems that's exactly what the writer does, he or she dons a mask and writes from another person's point of view. Even in poems which use "I" as a narrator, writers often represent another person's thoughts or feelings. Persona poems allow you to stretch your style and allow you to attribute emotions and feelings from a less vulnerable perspective. Remember that the narrator guides your reader through the poem. Examples of writers who have written in this format include Robert Browning, Norman Dubie, Sylvia Plath, Ann Sexton and Rita Dove." www.villagewriter.com

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 7
  • Rewards: Gold: 800, Silver: 500, Bronze: 200
  • Final notes:
I am terribly sorry for taking so long to judge this, I had several unexpected hitches in the past month, thank you for being patient .
the entries were really lovely, had the theme of the contest been more flexible the top three might well have been an alternate order. the differentiating factor here was based on how on the poet's persona communicated- the effectiveness of the poets style and devices in characterizing the said persona.
wish I had some points for HM's because they were well deserved!
thank you al for entering once again
