Forgiveness

Write me a poem about forgiveness. It can be your experience of being forgiven or being the one to forgive. Maybe you've needed to forgive yourself for something. I want to hear what you have to say, feel the emotion behind it and be challenged to think about forgiveness.

I tend to prefer the following:
- free verse
- metaphor
- imagery
- words that are not ordinarily used

However, that doesn't mean that I do not appreciate rhyme or other forms of poetry. I enjoy poetry the most when your heart and mind are in the poetry and it challenges me to read with my heart and mind, no matter what form it is in.

The reason for this contest is because I am trying to do an emotional spring cleaning. Forgiveness is one way of doing that. I am using this contest as a reminder of how to forgive and what it is like to be forgiven.

You may enter more than once and if you have already written a poem about forgiveness, you may also submit pre-written poems. Thank you!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on May 20, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 2 people
  • Final notes:
Thank you for being patient while I judged this contest. I had a friend have emergency heart surgery so I have been busy with worry for him.

Anyway, it was good timing to have this contest end at that time because some of the poems brought insight into that situation.

Thank you to everyone that entered the contest and poured their heart out onto the page. I treasured reading each of your poems as I know this is quite a personal subject.

Congrats to the gold winner. This is a poem of letting it go to free yourself. That really resonated with me and exactly what I needed to hear at this time. The wording was creative and really spoke to me.

The silver winner is another great poem written like a letter about a situation of miscommunication and forgiveness.

A poem of friendship gone sour and then reunited with a smile placed with a bronze trophy.

Lastly, there were two poems I gave honorable mention to because they also displayed excellence.

It was really difficult to judge this contest as there were so many excellent poems. I will comment on all of them in time. I just need a little more time to absorb and comment.

    Thanks!
