  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 1 people
  • Final notes:
The Contest-Poetry and Freedom...quick contest- has ended.

My thanks to everyone for making this PIF contest a success and to Old Poetry for the inspiration translation of “Poetica” by Manuel Bandeira. I hope many will return to OP to read more of this remarkable writer.

I judged the entries with respect to expression and depth of the theme of poetic freedom… but also to the extent that the style of Bandeira was reflected, the remarkable simplicity of his verses.

My selections for awards are as follows:

    Real Words – Gold
In the simple words and accessible style of the theme this poem expresses the essence of poetic freedom, not bound by expectations and the weight of acceptance, but free to explore…so very well done.

    Freedom – Silver
A tour of force here with descriptive words and action words to show a depth of understanding, feelings, and emotions…really a demonstration of poetic freedom the artist might focus the thoughts of readers on a landscape of things that need attention and change… so very well done.

Dusting Off Some Dear Old Things – Bronze
a metaphor concept of words in action and change in leaps to freedom, throwing off bonds of restriction; wonderful power and depth here.

    Tourniquet – Emerald
Simplicity in expression, wonderful depth of thought and ideas, many layers of exposition in these straight forward statements of feeling and thoughts…very well done.

All of the entries offered something special, some such as On Quitting My Job, showed wonderful talent and developing artistry, a promising young writer here.

I enjoyed reading all of the entries and I thank each writer for the honor of reading your work.

Until the next contest which will be soon, please be safe and well…PK

I have a poem on just that subject ...

but it's a prewrite, it's rhymed, and it's over ten lines.

Good luck with your contest in any case.

Thank you for promoting another Bandeira's poem with your contest. I wish you very good and inspired entries, and I wish I had the time to enter an 'extra' entry, the 11th
Great poem, but you could make the contest harder and ask for poems written in Portuguese... ja zal, you say.

Hope you get to read the inspiration you look for

Portuguese would be a different story, some of us have problems writing in one language[ like me!]It is a pleasure to reflect Bandeira, your translation of this poem was excellent, and the writers have enjoyed this challenge...some wonderful poetry here... Thanks again to you and OP...h

sorry was out most of the day, Pay It Forward, a book and a movie some years ago about the idea of doing good and then the recipient of the deed paid it forward to another. In the context here, it means i request the winner to hold a similar contest and in turn ask another winner to do the same...a chain of contest hostings...a lot of words but hope the point cpmes thru....PK
