ANZAC Spirit

On April 25th 1915, the Australian and New Zealand army corps landed in Suvla bay (Now called ANZAC Cove). Once on the beach they were faced by the well primed Turkish army, waiting in trenches and cervices. Three boat loads of ANZAC soldiers were shot down by the Turkish before they could reach the first ridge. Once they had taken their bearings it was realized that, due to a fault in the maps, the ANZACS had landed a kilometer and a half from where they should have been, but still they fought. The Australia and and New Zealand soldiers pushed forward(with minimal success}for eight months before they were finally evacuated on December 28th 1915.

Every year on April 25th services are held around Australia and New Zealand to remember not only those who died but those who fought for our countries and our freedom.

I would like tributes to these brave men who fought and died.

Special thanks to a fellow poet without whom silver and bronze would not exist. Thank you.

In Flanders Fields by John McCrae

'In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.'

To the fallen

'The shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condem.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
we will remember them.

Lest we forget.'
