I like options, you like options. Options are good, no? Well, here they are:
1. Use a Beatles song as the title of your poem and let it take it where it will.
2. You know that soliloquy from Hamlet? "To be or not to be..." and all that. I want you to use poetry form to define what that whole thing means to you.
3. 42 (Only if you know the significance of this number)
4. Greek Mythology is a very interesting topic, and I would like to see some poems inspired by any of the stories.
5. Stars. They're up there. Let that inspire you.
6. Watch "Word Disassociation" on youtube.com and compose a poem similar in presentation but with some meaning.
7. Pick a deceased character from Harry Potter and write them some type of funereal work.
I hope you are happy with these options, and don't want to chuck muffins at me. Unfortunately, there are a few guidelines I'd like you to follow.
a. Please, no erotica. While there are many great poems under this genre, I don't really care to read them unless I'm looking specifically for them. But if you really can't go without using innuendo, I guess that's okay.
b. No TyPiNg LiKe ThIs. I've never actually seen anyone bother to do this, but this seems to be a standard rule, so I'm using it as well.
c. No excessive swearing. If it's part of dialogue or a person's thought process, it's appropriate and just fine. However, I will not allow you to use the f word just for the heck of it.
d. Post "Penny Penguin prepared for prom" in the author notes to signify that you have read the rules and whatnot. It's not a big deal if you don't, but isn't it fun to acknowledge your reading skills?
Good luck in my contest and feel free to enter as many poems as you like, but please only enter one prewritten for every fresh write you produce. It's funner for me to read the poetry that was actually inspired by the prompts given, and it creates even ground for every entree. I have no way to enforce any of the rules, other than kicking your poems out, but please respect my authority! Peaceandpenguins Out.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on May 6, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 3 people
- Final notes: First of all, congratulations to the winners, and second of all, thank you for all the great entries. I'm sorry that not everyone could get a trophy, and I'm sorry I didn't comment on each piece. I would have, but I'm busy looking at colleges and preparing for finals. Also, I'm just lazy. But I probably will come back in the future and comment then, because they are all worth commenting. Once again, thank you for entering and good luck in future endeavours!

Such great options! I hope I can come up with something! Beatles, or 42 (yay), or Harry Potter, or greek mythology....
-
Wow, I'm going to have to do something about 42. That number is something of an obsession for me.
-
Technically, what I have is a prewritten poem, but it was only posted today. But yeah, I think I found where to put it.
-
LoL Harry Potter-how truly awesome! Seriously. I love Harry Potter!!
