There is a general misconception that the female body is more aesthetically beautiful. Some even say that a male nude is offensive. On what counts, I wonder! And, I beg to differ. For a woman, a male body is more aesthetically beautiful and the least bit offensive. I love painting male bodies and writing about it. I would love to see if anyone can pen wonderful poems on the beauty of male bodies. Male poets are also welcome. No need to be scared macho men, since no one finds it abnormal if a female poet or painter depicts female bodies in her work.

- Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50
- Final notes: I expected more entires, but am happy with the ones I got. I put all except one in the finalist list becasue they were all excellent responses to the prompt. The excempted one did not address the prompt in strict terms, though it was an excellent work otherwise. I give the trophies to the ones which appealed to me the most on a personal level. Congrats all.

I agree with the person above me
-
Not me.
I don't think there is anything wrong or offensive to a painting of a male nude. If you understand art you know this. The graphic is hard to believe that the above is a painting, it is realistic. I know obscene when I see it. The above is not. -
-
disclaimer
It's not a painting. It's a photo sent to me by a friend of mine. -
Okay.
But I still say I don't feel it is offensive.

I don't know who to agree with LOL This ain't obscene as there are no proud members to be observed, but would that be obscene? The site would probably ban such an image.
He has a fair resemblance to a fireside rug but that's another situation as some females/males like/dislike hair/no hair. -
-
Yup...that's a cool observation. Can I expect an entry from you on those lines? lol
-
-
He isn't nude. He's wearing a fur coat.

LOL

I'd still rather look at the smooth curves of a woman...must have been tuff painting all that hair on his body...this nudity is not offensive...but I do believe his barber is not a happy camper...and this guy should stay clear of the woods...

Disclaimer
The picture was sent to me by a friend, and I guess it is a photograph. I didn't paint it. I just mentioned that I like to paint male bodies, but I am not into realistic painting.

I don't find a male body offensive if naked at all, any more than a female. It's the same as a female really, if it's obese you dont' find it as attractive or overly hairy... but an average male body is fine to look at naked, don't see the fuss to be honest! -
No, the male nude body does not offend...but then...can't really SEE the male body here...can we remove all the shrubbery?...hehehe...jk...
-
-
lol...i loved the shrubbery, that came with the package
And, yes, it makes one think of removing it by hand to 'find' the body - which is a good idea!!!
-
-
hmmmm...this topic may be of interest after all...

i like the nude male figure, but i'm bi so.....
i do not however like the hair in such amounts. thats a bit much.

I agree that the male nude is not offensive - on the contrary I find it highly attractive in a strong, masculin, protective sense. But it's not a misconception, the female nude is more "beautiful". I don't consider men "beautiful" - or at least the ones I do I don't find attractive.
Does anyone get what I mean? "Beautiful" to me means something softer, (yes, edgy, but softer in the aesthetic sense). -
-
I understand your point. Even I think on similar lines sometimes. But I feel a new kind of aesthetics may emerge if we don't consider the male form anathema to art. It's not a question of 'which is better- male or female', but being open to aesthetic porptrayal of both. I appreciate your comment and original thoughts, and wonder why you won't post a poem on the topic..
-
-
I consider the male form as much a subject of art as the female form, I just don't consider it beautiful as such.
I'll think about it.
