Ok! I’m on a mission, a mission to find the best epitaph in the world. It hasn’t been written yet and it’s your job to write it. I won a contest from one of the best poetesses on the site “creationsfromtheheart” and my job is to PIF the epitaph form.
Epitaph
An epitaph is a brief poem normally one verse inscribed on a tombstone, praising a deceased person, usually with rhyming lines. It is a fairly easy write for even those that do not favor rhyme.
It can be funny, or a serious memorial.
Mother a loving soul
while here on earth shadowing her children
assuring them of their worth.
Now in the arms of Jesus she rest,
awaiting for us to join her in Heavens nest.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on April 14, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 600, Silver: 250, Bronze: 150, Honorable mention: 6 people
- Final notes: This contest was fun for me and I truly hope it was fun for all the authors who entered. I want to thank each and every one of you for making this contest a fantastic success and so quickly. Those of you that know me know that I usually judge on the originality, perfection of form and the amount of work you put in to your piece. Some of you wrote an additional poem to accompany the epitaph and I was very impressed but I had to judge on the challenge which was the epitaph its self. There were absolutely no poor entries in this contest.
I thought the Tombstone Generator was a fun idea and I’m glad to see so many of you use it.
Gold – “Ministers In Hell”
I chose this poem for the top winner because the epitaph painted a picture and told a story. This entry went well beyond the typical; “Here lies Fred, now he’s dead”.
Silver – “The Tombstone”
This entry was so close to gold because it made me cry. It was beautiful.
Bronze – “Born 9/14/88 - I.E.D.'d July 17, 2007”
This epitaph touched my heart too because it honors our soldiers and the clever play on words; “died and I.E.D’d” is so original.
The HM’s came so close to top spots that I wish I was allowed to have more than three top spots.
Once again, thank you all for making my contest so much fun. I love you all.
