Will I Lose My Dignity (Will Someone Care?)

Thanks to Soulful Woman, this contest can now be extended and more points can be given! Thank you so so much!

I am working on my second play (my first musical). This one is about something much more serious and much more real than my first. After watching Rent (which always makes me cry), I got inspired to write about AIDS. I need to get some research done and I thought what better research than the poets of Allpoetry? What do I need from you? I need your poems about the disease, especially if you know someone who has it and their struggles. You're poems will not be used as songs, just as background information. I will add more points as I gain them.

A few rules:
1. Stay on topic
2. Must be informative (either the emotional or physical aspect of the disease)
3. Please no story poems. I'm not much of a fan of those.
4. If your grammar and spelling are too atrocious, I will disqualify you. Be wary and use spell check.

If you would like to offer any other information about the topic, feel free to message me about it.

  • I love the movie RENT and it always makes me cry too, unfortunetly I cannot help you with this task. I wish you the best of luck with your production and your first musical.
    • Thank you for your kind words. I'm working on the outline for the acts right now. It's difficult but I don't have to finish it now. The end of Junior year is my iffy deadline. I might not take this one to competetion.

    I would like.

I would like to get back on this one. I do care about AIDS and work in the health care field. Kind of busy today but will try to do an entry.

    I am not up ...

to writing just now, having been rather under the weather for some time. I do have some poems posted by others on my website, Voices For Africa, about AIDS. You might like to look through those. One of the best is by Alex Gildzen (I think that's the right spelling), about a tribe in Africa who were stonecarvers and are all gone now due to AIDS.

I will also give you some points for your contest if you need some.

It's funny because I just started getting into Rent. I've never seen it, but I recently got the CD and I love it. I was just browsing the contests and saw this and I couldn't resist coming to look at it. I might enter, I might not, since I don't have any personal experiences with AIDS. Anyway, thanks for putting up this contest!
