Hello, all. This will be my first quote-inspired contest. Don't let me down!
Rules
- NO rhyme. At all.
- Don't use the quote you chose in your poem.
- Please put the quote you chose in your author's notes.
- You may enter as many times as you'd like, but don't use the same quote twice.
Notes
- I can be blunt in my critiques/comments. If you can't handle it, don't enter.
- Points will rise, depending on entries.
- I will comment on every poem.
- Your entry can be any genre you want, as long as it has something to do with the quote.
- You will be disqualified if you don't follow the rules.
Okay! Now that we got that over with, here are the quotes.
"Tears, tears that break out of me.
My death, great Moor, bearer
of my heart, hold me at a slant
so they'll run off. I want to speak.
Black, gigantic heart-holder.
Even if I were to speak,
do you think the silence would break?
Cradle me, old man."
- Rainer Maria Rilke
"How frail the human heart must be- a mirrored pool of thought."
- Sylvia Plath
"I love him so much, it just turns to hate"
- 'Doll Parts' by Hole
"I am just a worthless liar;
I am just an imbecile.
I will only complicate you;
trust in me and fall, as well."
- 'Sober' by Tool
"One single image frame I wish to forget
now replayed in succession of millions.
The one second I will always regret-
my hell found in its reiteration."
- 'Perpetual Black Second' by Meshuggah
"Scar tissue has no character. It's not like skin. It doesn't show age or illness or pallor or tan. It has no pores, no hair, no wrinkles. It's like a slip cover. It shields and disguises what's beneath. That's why we grow it; we have something to hide."
- 'Girl, Interrupted' by Susanna Kaysen
"He and I had something beautiful,
but so dysfunctional, it couldn't last."
- 'Near to You' by A Fine Frenzy
"Someday you will find me,
caught beneath the landslide,
in a champagne supernova in the sky."
- 'Champagne Supernova' by Oasis
"Gotta cut away, clear away,
snip away and sever this
umbilical residue that's
keeping me from killing you."
- 'Orestes' by A Perfect Circle
"I hear horror stories about girls who don't eat- how their hair turns white and their gums bleed. But I feel beautiful, perfect. I am all pale bone, and bone-pale flesh and pale hair and I am light. I am like some fairy thing. I dream about fairies dancing around the house with their rib cages like baskets under their flesh. I could drift up and away from here. I am so light. Bound by nothing. Not even time. And I am pure now."
- 'The Hanged Man' by Francesca Lia Block
"And the sharp hiss of one voice that started out softly, as though below layers of moss, or flesh, and gradually became so loud it drowned out everything else: Thinner, it said. You've got to get thinner."
- 'Wasted' by Marya Hornbacher
"I got my feet on the ground and I don't go to sleep to dream.
You got your head in the clouds and you're not at all what you seem.
This mind, this body, and this voice cannot be stifled by your deviant ways.
So don't forget what I told you; don't come around, I got my own hell to raise."
- 'Sleep to Dream' by Fiona Apple
"We live in a society of victimization, where people are much more comfortable being victimized than actually standing up for themselves."
- Marilyn Manson
"I will show you fear in a handful of dust."
- T. S. Eliot
"Broke; the pain between her thighs.
I see your pretty face, smashed against
the bathroom floor.
What a disgrace;
who do I feel sorry for?"
- 'Pretty' by Korn
Good luck, amaze me~
