Hello Wonderful Poets!
Welcome to Identify & Write. This contest is about the image. How does it make you feel?
What emotion wells within as you view this living thing?
I would like an outpouring of emotive writing in no more than 120 poetic words.
Make the images visual, make it evocative.
Let me feel the breath of thought upon my cheek.
I want it mature and I want it beautiful.
THE RULES:
1. Please left align unless your poem calls for other formatting.
2. Please no sticky caps or other detracting typography.
3. Proper spelling, punctuation and grammar are required and WILL MATTER.
4. No erotica. Tastefully sensual is fine assuming it fits your thematic take.
5. Be creative, step out of 'the box', be proud of what you write and
entertaining in the best sense of that word.
PRIZES: GOLD ~ 1600 points.
Silver, bronze, HM's and Finalist status will be conferred depending on the quality of entries according to the analysis of the judges.
*This contest has been re-opened as three judges could not justify a Gold winning poem because Lyndon, as presiding judge, felt he had insufficient numbers. We appreciate the brave people who have entered. Please stay where you are! You could be the Gold winner! By the way, the picture is of a species of Eucalyptus Genus and is the flowerhead with some closed buds. Note all the stamens.
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on June 7, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 1600, Silver: 1000, Bronze: 400, Honorable mention: 2 people
- Final notes: Lyndon: Praise goes to Joan (angelica); Jeff; Ron for hours spent deliberating and for coming up with an acceptable order.
It is wonderful to see that half of the poems were very enjoyable to read; the others quite interesting.
One thing: do keep specifications in mind in contests.
Thank you all very much.
Gold trophy is unreservedly awarded to the poem, "Of Eucalyptus and of Touch".
Silver goes to "Rain on the Gums".
Bronze to the poem, "Sun Shines in Australia". Lyndon loved this one with its drawing.
HMs: (i) "In Loving Memory."
(ii) "On First Seeing a Bloom".
Finalist: "A Closed Bud".
It will not surprise you to know that apart from Gold that there was variance of opinion of the minor placings among the three judges. I feel that we have just about got it right now!
Good luck to all and keep competing.
May the muse be with you. Lyndon.

Ok so none of the poems were worthy of gold? is that what you're saying?

I must have lost my ability to communicate - a contest has a first prize, the entrants are poor but at least one has to pass the post first and that one gets the gold. They can't all be equal, life ain't like that. Oh, shut up, Donald.

Dear Donald
I am on vacation. Things have been hurried for this septuagenarian, too. All that you say is correct, my friendly Winkler,
however this is a blossom dear to me and I wished for more entries. Perhaps I did the wrong thing in re-opening this contest. If you have a poem in this anonymously judged contest, please leave it there.

Dear sweet Alice
I am on Vacation and I have had a quick look at contests. In answer to your question, I am not saying that. Being an Australian, I had hoped for far more entries about our beautiful eucalyptus blooms and buds!
I am sure that I would value your poem, if it is here but, of course, dear Winkler, I do not know this. Please look at the contest re-wording once more. With love, Ron. PS: I climbed Kosciuszko and ran myself down and now have a nasty strep. throat.
Hope you are well!

Non awarding of gold
Not awarding the prize in a contest because the poems are unworthy, don't meet arbitrary standards, whatever, is somewhat akin to the Athletics Judge holding back the gold medal for the first past the post in the 100 metres because the speed was low. Unfair and unreasonable for an athletics judge to do that - don't you agree? -
Thank you so much for the Gold ...
and for the Glitter! I loved this contest. It tested my ability to recall ...
Thank you also for hosting such inspiring contests.
Congratulations to Cheryl for Silver and RS Adams for Bronze.
Love
Myra
