Jesus Beyond Savior

Christians know they are saved. They have a ticket to God's Kingdom. They've accepted Jesus as savior, know he's paid the debt for sin, and accept his grace. But many Christians stop there. Jesus does more than save. Jesus sets us free from sin. He cleanses us from all unrighteousness. He sanctifies us, setting us apart for his good purposes. Many Christians live as defeated Christians continuing to sin and not making a difference in this world.

What I want are poems about Jesus' work beyond saving.

Some examples would be

Living in brokenness,  surrender, and humility. For an example see Josh Groban's song My Confession

Living in freedom from sin. For example see MercyMe's Undone.

An expository on what the Blood of Jesus does beyond saving us. (See the writings of Andrew Murray)

Experiencing God's presences everyday in the normal mundane things (See Brother Lawrence's  book Practicing the Presence of God).

These are just examples. What I want is deep truth beyond saving us from our sins.  I want deep meaningful poems.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on April 19, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 250, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 2 people
  • Final notes:
Thank you everyone for your entries. I was truly blessed reading them all. I hope you take the time to read each entry. I was especially impressed with "Living Life." This was an incredibly well written poem. It has wonderful imagery, feeling and rhyme. It did the best job of meeting the criteria of the contest. It showed that Jesus does much more than save. It speaks how he walks us through our trials. It tells how he is present in the good times. It speaks of the joy he gives when we surrender. It tells how Christ is the only one who can truly satisfy the needs of our body and soul. It is an outstanding piece of poetry. I urge you to read it and ponder it.

I was impressed with the message in "Seeking." We need to constantly pursue God. He is limitless. His love is endless. We will never completely know him and his love. We must continually seek to know him and to know his love.

With "Knock on Your Door." I was impressed with the use of the names of God in each stanza.

Thanks again for all your entries. It matters not if you received a trophy. What matters is that your words glorified God and blessed others.
