In the Name of Jane Austen

In the Name of Jane Austen

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice, first line.

This contest is self-explanatory, it is in honor of Jane Austen herself. The great woman writer from the 19th century. I love her pieces and adore her as a person as well. So I have decided to dedicate a contest on AP to her.

The mission of this contest is to take inspiration from Jane Austens works. From any of her books (ex. 'Pride & Prejudice', 'Emma', 'Sense and Sensibility', 'Northanger Abbey'.....) and to write a poem based on one of those books (you can choose the ones I haven't listed too).

I want you to keep the antiquity within your poem, make sure it relates to one of her books, to celebrate her, and express emotion (I'm very big on that). Try to see what she was trying to express and did and try to do the same as well. See not just emotion either, but don't forget that.

Remember Jane Austen needed to write as much as she wanted to write, even though she gave so much up for it.

I can not be more honored to say this and I am humbly endowed to Mirthryl, who donated 2000 points to this contest. I am very thankful Mirthryl, Thank You!

Another BIG Thank you! to Abear who made the background for this contest. Thank you so much abear!!!

Now get to your writing!

~)O(~Nicolette Everett~)O(~

P.S. If more people put in entries the points for each trophy will be higher! Come on people we can get more people. Those who enter tell other people or anyone tell other people please!!! This will be the last time I'll run this contest.

P.S.S As of 5/11/08 I am running the contest 1 more time and thats it. I think if people could just see the contest they could enter, so help get the word around. Remember this is the last time I'll run it so in the end, I WILL decide who wins.

Well I choose the picture because its a beautiful caption of reading, of Anne Hathaway, and a beautiful picture in its senses.
But I wish to say nothing on the movie.

      Thank you!
I've just finished reading 'Northanger Abbey' and am in the middle of 'Sense and Sensibility'. And have been watching the movies based on her books, so I thought it would be a great idea to dedicated a contest to Miss. Austen.

Brilliant idea for a contest! I'm a slightly obsessed Austen fan. I don't think I'll have time to come up with an entry, but I wanted to tell you what a great idea I think it is. Good luck!

Shucks. I stumbled upon this contest much to late to write anything worthy. Jane Austen is my fav. I have read all of her books and just love her own personal story. Good luck with the judging.

Hi Nicolette, I wrote 2 poems for your comp, but only one is listed here, It didn't let me add 2. Let me know if you want the other one as well.

If I entered this... I would be overcome with the urge to goof on pride and prejudice. In terms of the "classic chick novels"... Wuthering Heights absolutely DESTROYS Pride and Prejudice in every possible way. Just my opinion... host a Bronte contest?

Thank you for the gold, and for this wonderful contest. Amazing how many people went for P&P. Two went for S&S, one for Emma, and one for the lady herself. Thank you again.
