All of you won either a Gold Silver or Bronze Cup or more than one HM in our recent rhyming extravaganza. Now Sue thinks you did not work hard enough so she wants more blood!

Those of you who know us will have notice our poetry has changed, we want to reflect this. So your prompt this time is

"A change in my life"

This should be a change in your, the poet's, life. Either one that happened last year or that you want to happen this.

We are not going to specify the mood or the form, except to say that plusperfect rhyme, and liquid flow are of course a pre-requisite, and we will look kindly (points and or HMs) on anyone attempting something new for them!

There will be no pre-writes allowed. Two entries per poet maximum please.

So sharpen your pens, and aim to dazzle us,

Remember our judging criterion is that as long as your poem rhymes and flows at least as well as we expect, the beauty, appeal, conviction and content will decide it.

There will be HMs and bonuses aplenty.

The next Rhyming Series will start in the spring!!!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on April 4, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 5000, Silver: 1000, Bronze: 500, Honorable mention: 12 people
  • Final notes:
This was slightly different to our normal contests. We have marked all the poems against three criteria.
The theme, the poetry and the content.
All the finallists achieved a minimum standard in each of the three. We then re-assessed all these poems. Leaving us with four outstanding ones.
Each of three of them score at least one maximum, for poetry, theme or content but the winner did not, it scored very close on all three. Well done Ros a poem we both adored, Legend comes next, content perfect, but the poem less so and we asked for change specifically in the last year or the next, and this was a longer period. Does not detract from the brilliance.
Then we come to the difficult choice. A plusperfect poem but lighter on content and although right on theme not exactly as strongly as the final in the big four, content and theme is spades, but our contests are about the style of rhyme and flow we love and Tory has a different and very powerful style. We cannot really separate them, we want two bronzes, but that is not possible and we have decided to award the style of poetry with the trophy it is a poetry contest after all, but both poems get 500 points, they are equal.
All the other finallists get HMs.
To conclude thank you all for your entries, all wonderful. We hope you will join us when our main series returns at the end of the month.

In our contests! You didn't enter, so we couldn't find you :-(

I'd love to give you a retrospective, but that would not be fair.

This is true and a few others only found us at the end. We got 160 entries in our biggest round though. We are hoping to persuade some guests to judge a couple of rounds next time so we can have a game.
We met so many poets and got to read such a variety of work. A couple of good entries already in this extra bit.

    I'm afraid ...

that I am not up to writing anything for this. I have a great deal of trouble writing on subjects like this. I forced myself to write a poem for Laura's contest and was not at all happy with the result. I don't think I want to do that again. The ways that my life changed over the last year are not propitious and I don't think they are anything I'd like to commemorate in rhyme.

    Good luck with the contest.
