dust by Chris Mansell
there are times
when you should listen
to the world
I think
like
for instance
the time a meteorite came
through the roof and
through the ceiling and
landed on my desk
in the middle of
the papers and things
undone
to say it
smouldered would be
to become poetic
but it did
smoulder
and I was sitting there
at the time
about to pick up my pen
then I was
covered in dust
fragments of roof
deaf with surprise
and there it was
not too big
not peculiar
except for it not being
where it should be
or perhaps exactly
where it should be
as I say
a message
Chris is a contemporary Australian Poet, still living and writing in Australia. Use her poem to pen me your piece on 'Dust'
I will give you no line limit but please remember I have to read them so don't make it an epic and I'd rather you paint me the story in brevity.
Off you go and do not choke on the dust as it settles on your fine pens!

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on March 28, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 4 people
- Final notes: I must admit that this is one of the very few contests I have held that has just taken my breath away at the standard of what all you poets have submitted. You made life very difficult, but I think everyone should read the top dozen because they are wonderful. I thank you for making it a pleasure to read and judge.

I already have an ode to my minute friends, don't know if I could do a follow-up, hey, maybe a "how-have-you-been-after-all-this-time" letter, hmmm...

I like this poetry. It is a wake up call to me, I don't know why. Good job, Chris this is very excellent.
