The Knit Knot Tree

A Cardigan for a Pear Tree

I'd knit for nought but what I ought
to knit for grows near Antioch
in Yellow Springs where knitters bring
some random color to the scene
and deck the pear on Xenia Street
in knotted yarns and knits off-beat.
A swatch of angora and wool,
a skein of scraps, a pocketful
of poesies tucked into the seam
of winter's threadbare, frozen dream.

~ ea

Tell me a story about this tree,
photographed by Skip Peterson
in Yellow Springs, Ohio -
it can be anything
from a children's poem
to abstract.

Help add to this community art project! People are stuffing the pockets of the Knit Knot Tree with poems and one of our AP Buckeyes is hoping to take these over.

Please remember to credit the picture to Skip Peterson if you post it, thanks.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on March 23, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 100, Bronze: 75
  • Final notes:
    The Knit Knot Tree

The Knit Knot Tree has got to be
the coolest tree in Greene County.
It's cold enough to freeze its duff
in all this white and icy stuff
    so Mrs. Bayraktaroglu
has knit a sneed a la Doc Seuss
to keep its knotty branches warm
    during Ohio's record storm
of falling snow – Two Thousand Eight.
The other trees all think it's great
and have their orders in for their
    stylish and cozy outerwear!
