Poems For The Poet

Its the Master's birthday..

William Wordsworth
http://oldpoetry.com/oauthor/show/William_Wordsworth

A name that echoes with the music in the wind.. with the flow of rivulets, in the breeze on a lone hill, with the melting dew on leaflets.. In short, a name that echoes 'Poetry'

He is a Legend!

We are contemplating releasing a book, showing in our way, our humble remembrance of the Greatest Poet of Poets!!

How would it be to have one of your entries in a book which will hold a very select collection of poems, and form a tribute to the Poet for all times.. Well, the chance has come.

The greatest Nature Poet was born on April 7, 1770 in the Lake District at Cockermouth on River Derwent.

The magnificent landscape deeply affected Wordsworth's imagination and gave him a love of nature. He lost his mother when he was eight and five years later, his father.

"..I listened, motionless and still;
And, as I mounted up the hill,
The music in my heart I bore,
Long after it was heard no more. "

Dove Cottage was home to the Romantic poet William Wordsworth (1770-1850) and his family. Here Wordsworth wrote many of his most famous poems. He loved and drew inspiration from Nature, whom he says, has always been his friend, philosopher and guide.

William Wordsworth wrote some 70000 lines of verse, 40000 lines more than any other poet.

There would come a hundred thousand poets. But he is in a class apart.. his verses are still remembered.

"A violet by a mossy stone
Half hidden from the eye;
Fair as a star, when only one
Is shining in the sky."

Now to this great Poet of Poets, we shall make our humble bow and offer a tribute.

The contest is simple.

NOTE: We expect entries from those who have been inspired by the verses of this great Nature poet or at least by nature itself. I am sure many of you have been. So get started..

Choose one option and let your pens dance.

1. Write a poem about him, a Poem for the Poet.
Take care you do some study before you venture here.

2. You could refer to any of his poems and write a poem about the poet in that instance.
You might take the following as an example: http://allpoetry.com/poem/2132892

3. Write how would it be, if you were in it.. stealing a boat ride on a lonely night Our Poet has written it well. Ever fancied being with him in that boat ride, on a chilly night?? Grab the chance..

4. And have you ever wondered about that lone maid in the hill up there, reaping in solitude?? Did our poet meet her? Or you could put yourself in the heels of that solitary reaper and say a THANKS to this great master who showed you to the world..
PS: This might sound a little abstract but if you are really aware then you might get the essence of what I am trying to say here. Else, move on to the next option.

5. 'A violet by a mossy stone'..
'..The sweetest thing that ever grew
Beside a human door'

- Take your muses far and wide.. let them gather the finest flowers and come, throw them here

6. Next, write a letter to him. If he was to read it, how and what would you write.. Please emply poetic devices here.

7. ACROSTIC for WILLIAM WORDSWORTH, it just shouldnt be another acrostic for the sake of it. give life to every line and make it meaningful.

Please take care to put some effort when you choose the options. Remember, your work might get into a book and would be read from all over the world.

For assistance, please refer http://oldpoetry.com/oauthor/show/William_Wordsworth

Every poem selected will receive special huge points plus, a page for yourself in the much awaited book, likely to hit the shelves in April.

Now, to have your poems selected, you just have to follow the rules listed below. Simple..

1. Take abundant care for the flow of your verses. We want them to flow as easily as wine from a broken glass.

2. No forced rhymes. If you can weave rhyme beautifully within your verses, well and good. Please dont force them in.

3. The topic chosen should be mild and involve no curse or hurt words.

4. And please, light backgrounds with fonts legible. We dont want to hurt our eyes. Presentation matters too.

5. We stress.. the usage of proper English words. This means, words like ok, ma instead of my, ohh.. and the like are prohibited.

If your poem doesnt abide by any or one of the above mentioned, your chances are negligible. It might be removed from the contest without notification.

Good Luck Poets.. Happy Writing!

Nice idea for a contest but I'm afraid I am not that much of a Wordsworth fan. Good luck with it though. Love the background.

I was wondering if you would consider a submission of a Cento to your contest? It is a prewrite I believe.
