#4 Bring the Background to the Foreground

I have some points I can throw away, so I'll create a contest! Good idea yes? I thought so too.

I have had this idea for a while, and I thought it was a pretty cool idea. I've seen different options contests around the site, and in a way, this is sort of an options contest.

When most of us write poetry, AP provides us with a lovely set of backgrounds we can add to create more of an atmosphere, a graphic if you will. In the picture above for example, the statement and the background go hand in hand, and most likely, the background was created later.

Do you get where I'm going with this? Maybe?

The rules are simple. Choose a background and get inspired by it. It can be either one provided here on AP or one of your choice, but it must be included as the background of your poem. Pretty simple right?

I'm going to make this contest pretty open in regards to what can and can't be submitted. You can basically submit whatever genre you want, just make sure you tag it so I know. There are also no limits on what backgrounds can and cannot be used. You can use a plain color background if you want! I don't care! Just go with it! Run with it like a car escaping from a tornado!

I have just two other rules:

1) NoNe oF tHiS bUlLsHiT gOt It?
2) Try not to make it longer than 60 lines. I just don't have that type of attention span.

Prizes:
1st Place: A shiny gold trophy to display proudly, 350 points, and bragging rights to all of your friends
2nd Place: A not as shiny, but still pretty shiny silver trophy, 200 points, and bragging rights
3rd Place: A fairly dull, but still pretty awesome bronze trophy, 100 points, and a longer line of trophies on your profile.
HM's may be added depending on the number and quality of entries.

Good...Got it?...You better have it, because this message is going to self destruct in 10 seconds.

BOOM!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on April 5
  • Rewards: Gold: 350, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100
  • Final notes:
Thanks to all for entering my little experiment of a contest. I liked the batch of entries I got. Not too many blew me away, but I still liked them all nonetheless. There was no piece that was truly horrible or was just "okay," and I'm not just saying that. I'm honest, and I speak what I feel.

The way the contest was judged was how good the poem was and how well it represented the contest, and I think I chose the ones that deserved it. Congrats to the winners and good writing in the future!

Best of luck to all and a new year!

    Great Idea!!!

I love this idea..... And have a great idea for my upcoming background, but it is not made yet So I will just wait and see if it gets done before this closes. If it does, I will be back. Or I may just write it anyways, and not have it in a contest
