Socks...

 Art Credit: Socks- Debi Bender

My AP friends think i am too serious.

Some people such as Justbreathe, SECBerm, Mallig, Marigoes and others have said so...

so this is to show "ah do have a silly side..."

Did my laundry the other day, had 15 sweat socks, one with a small hole where a toenail might have been and so i said , fine.  After the wash I had 14 socks, still one with a small hole in the toe. Went to put them away and then found I had 15 sweat socks in the drawer...still one with a hole...

So...what happens to socks in the wash?

This happens to me all the time, laundry-mat experiences have been even worse... [for the wealthy and non U.S. people just ignore this laundry-mat business] and how do you fix the hole in the toe?

or just throw it away...then if i do... will the other sock suddenly show up?

So this is the mystery of life that is the theme of this contest

Prompt: what the heck happens to socks gone missing in the laundry....

fifty words or less
imagery and metaphor welcomed
End- Rhyme only if you can really do it well

one week or twenty entries whichever happens first,

feel free to reserve and come back later
and by all means let us have fun with this-

I have brought in an expert on running fun contests to help judge the entries: Marigoes is my co-judge, very talented co-host.

Contest is Over

    We agree on this one, so clever…sleeping bags for elves…and true too!

    Everyone else received an Emerald Cup roughly in the order of profound laughter;
    my thanks to everyone who participated and was a good sport with our humorous comments,
    everyone got a cup except the judges who each wrote clever and creative poems using poetic device to rather amusing effect really…

    Bee good til next time…PK and Marigoes

        The socks are the most adventurous of all the undergarments. But they never make it very far. Think about it, how many times have you walked down the street and seen a stray sock just lying there?

          hmmmm- now you've done it, got me to thinking about stray undergarments...on the streets...;

            Well, the reason they take such risks is because they are alwasy stuck inside of shoes. They can be worn all day and still never experience the world for themselves.

            We have to cut down on runaway sock tragedies!
  • oh my god, i hate the sock thing
  • and yes trust me, as soon as you throw the one away, the other one shows up, it happens EVERY damn time. trust me i am an expert or the biggest victim of the disappearing socks

    I'm laughing, I've just been writing about missing socks....did you know Albert Einstein, when he discovered that toenails caused holes in socks, gave up wearing socks? A simple and brilliant solution....another is to wear unmatching socks, and do away with hours - days over a lifetime - of matching, and worrying, and looking for pairs...

    'Tis easy to mend a sock. You need a needle and thread, the same color as the sock. Put an orange in the sock, or something else round, and then you sew the hole shut. First you run some little stitches around the hole, in and out, and after you do that, you sew back and forth, doing a weaving stitch. It's best to turn the sock wrong side out to do this, if you want the sock to look best on the outside. No matter though... the hole will be closed and your sock will last at least until it is lost during the next laundry cycle.
