Ever heard of hissless hymns?!

Another contest after reaching 3000 points again, as promised! And i'll continue making contests every time I reach the 3000 point mark. Now to the contest...

Alright so I was reading up on my Ancient Greek history and ran into something I thought was rather interesting: hissless hymns. So what is a hissless hymn? Well if you Google it you'll probably find nothing, but in simple terms it's a poem written without using the letter 's' even once. The 's' is what the 'hiss' stands for, therefore by getting rid of it, your poem becomes 'hissless', get it? So my challenge to you, is to write one of these poems.

~*~RULES~*~

I) No StiCKy CaPS
II) No erotica/emo--only tasteful 'emotional' poems
III)Any style of poetry from free verse to shape poetry I don't care
IV)Has to be a poem that DOES NOT USE THE LETTER 'S'
VI)Can be any genre
VII)I see that it's hard to choose which poems to enter, so I'll allow up to 2 poems per person, 40 poems total for now.
VIII)Ages 13-Whatever (I will check this).
IX)NO LONGER THAN 50 LINES. I have a short attention span. I won't strictly control this but chances are if it's longer it won't win simply because I'll get bored. But also NO SHORTER THAN 20
X) PUT YOUR AP NAME IN YOUR AUTHOR NOTES.

Now I will accept pre-writes, but I HIGHLY doubt you'll find one that fits since the 's' is usually used...all the time.

Anyways, have fun. If you have questions feel free to let me know. I'll comment on all I promise. Also, I'll give my honest opinion, my likes and dislikes. I won't lie or cushion things, but if you really want to win you can always change things around while the contest continues, I don't mind.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on February 29, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 3 people
  • Final notes:
Hey guys, I decided to judge this early. I added two more honorable mentions at the last minute because I think you all deserved trophies for being kind enough to help me out in the contest and enter! That being said, I gave the gold, silver, and bronze to those poems I found most deserving and the rest are ranked with my favorite being the first. Great job, this was truly challenging which is probably why not many people entered so CHEERS to you guys for accepting the challenge!!! Keep your eyes open for my next competition which will happen once I get 3000 points again. I already know what I'll be doing and trust me it'll be fun ^-^. Keep writing!

Hey, I think this is an awesome idea for a contest and I hope you get many awesome entries...

I just have one question - you say that the letter 's' makes a hissing noise (perfectly understandable) but what about words like 'concern' which don't have the letter 's' but a similar sound? Should we or should we not use words like this?

as far as I know thats perfectly fine. As long as you don't use the 's' whatever else is fine.

I think the ending of this contest is entirely up to you... I personally would like to see more entries in this (however much it diminishes my chances of winning ) but whenever you are happy with the entries

    Stay smiling
