A Poem that Changed a Life

You can do one of several things here:

1) Please write about, in poetic form, how a particular poem or poet changed your or someone else's life. Name the poem or poet in your notes.

or

2) write about "Since Feelings is First" (an ee cummings poem that changed my life), and explain why it might change someone's life,

or

3) write about, "The More Loving One" (a poem by WH Auden that changed my life). Write about why this might change someone's life.

I'm hoping you will reveal profound layers of wisdom in your poem. We're talking about life lessons here. It can be about spiritual, physical (erotica), emotional, intellectual matter, etc.

Thank you.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on March 19, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100
  • Final notes:
While I had hoped for comments on ee or WH, people largely followed my expectations, and for that I thank one and all. I was educated about poets I knew little or nothing about, and contemplated more deeply words from poets with whom I had some touch. I am heartened to see that poetry actually changes lives. Again, thanks everyone!

Thanks Kel. Maybe I should expand it to include quotes that changed a life? Hmmmmm.

I really like the concept! One question: Does it have to be a famous poet, or can it be a best friend who is a poet?
