Joining lines in Oldpoetry (contest)

Extended!!!

I got lots of points as generous gifts from two friends,
which made possible for me to host this contest (my last one for a while)

It'll require some effort, for what I ask for this contest is that you
compose a poem using lines of poems posted at Oldpoetry.
A Cento we call it.

You can only use ONE line of any chosen poem
You may choose different poems of the same author
No less than 50 lines, no more than 100
I ask you to give credit (and link) to every poem you have used a line from

Take your time, don't mind the closing date, I'll probably extend it.

4000 points go to the gold trophy, silver and bronze will get points as well,
just not sure of the amount yet.

Make it nice, make it worthy of your time and mine.

Please don't forget the links, copy and paste them into your author notes.

Hope you enjoy

Mari

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on March 19, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 4000, Silver: 1000, Bronze: 500, Honorable mention: 8 people
  • Final notes:
This was a 'lot of work' contest! To all of you and to me as well. But was also a great way to get to know more of the Old Masters works, which was the meaning of this contest.
I noticed that Tagore and Neruda appeared a lot here, and both are among my favourite poets

My choice went to the centos I like most, the use of one single corresponding to equally one single line in the cento, and the correct use of links.
However, I know that all of you went through lots of work and research to find the lines you wanted to. I appreciate and thank each of you for that!

    Mari

One of my most favorite forms is the CENTO. The very first CENTO I wrote was from works at OP. Nam taught the form to me. But we don't talk anymore. As a matter of fact I think he may have blocked me. That is neither here nor there, I am happy he shared the form with me, and even happier that you chose to use OP as your springboard for this contest. I am sure, as I am, the Mods at our sister site appreciate your hosting this contest. I am bookmarking and sending the link through the OP & Friends Group.

Much Love Always Dear Sister ♥

Thanks Renee. I like going through the poems posted on OP. I remember you entered one of Nam's cento contest, I joined his haiku old poetry cento contest, both posted in the same period I believe.
Anyway, I like when I can make lines written so long ago to sound like 'new' when composing a cento. Hope you find one of yours somewhere in your files and bring it to here

What a great idea. A contest, some good poems and links to the Oldpoetry originals. I shall follow this with interest. I might even attempt it myself.
Thanks for posting and hosting the competition.

    Good Idea!

I like your contest idea. I believe
    it takes creativity and imagination
in order to take pieces of someone
elses poem and make it into something
    worth reading.
I hope you get alot of entries.

    What a great idea

I'm just WAY too tired to attempt something of that scale. If I was familiar with some of the works of the masters and knew where to find helpful lines would be one thing, but I'd have to wander around aimlessly trying to patch something cohesive together. Nyark.

One question, can we change the punctuations while keeping the whole line intact?

Just doing it I could have entered using any of the other two accounts I have here (which is of common knowledge that they belong to me), but I have this already written cento and posted it here. I often join my own contest, still have one more to post as entry.
And no, I do not give myself trophies

Yes, it's new, I think, at least I only found it was possible a month or two ago. Before I always entered using this account. I think it's a good idea, the hosts shouldn't stay away from their own party, right

Would be funny to see someone win in his/her own contest just because all the other entries were 'rubbish' lol Shouldn't it be changed?I think it may be a bug

I'm mad as heck! Why didn't I win a trophy? Mine was easily the best of the lot. I am mad at you. I hate centos and I hate this keyboard. And right now I ain't to fond of you either lady!

Can I have a Moxie now?

Ok, serious for a second. Thanks for all the work and fun. It was a well run contest and I know and appreciate the amount of work you put into it. People have no idea of the effort in reading, following links, IMing people, and putting up with my insanity. Thanks.

Thanks so much for silver s and congrats to everyone that wrote a cento for this contest; they're a huge challenge, not only to research and piece together, but to suffer through the anxiety of HOPING that you've done justice to a line written by a great poetic pen! It's pressure, but...lol... it's certainly fun too!

    s and best wishes... ~Genie~
