Well three out of you can try to redeem your poem! I decided, every time I reach 3000 points I'm going to start another contest. My last contest [Philosophical Writings] was extremely successful and I hope to do so again! So, this contest is for pieces that have been entered into other contests and have only placed into HONORABLE MENTION or the FINALISTS. I'll try to make sure you guys aren't cheating me out here, but please, I'm trying to do you a favor so don't try to cheat by submitting poems that don't qualify. I don't want any poems that have won Gold,Silver, or Bronze in any other contest. I'm trying to help the little guys out (like me haha). Oh, and you don't have to worry about bias because I don't really know anyone on AP so I can't really 'prefer' anyone.
~*~RULES~*~
I) No StiCKy CaPS
II) No erotica/emo--only tasteful 'emotional' poems
III)Any style of poetry from free verse to shape poetry I don't care
IV)Has to be a poem that has either won an honorable mention, or has been on the 'finalist' list
VI)Can be any genre
VII)I see that it's hard to choose which poems to enter, so I'll allow up to 2 poems per person, 40 poems total for now.
VIII)Ages 13-30 (I will check this).
IX)No longer than 50 lines. I have a short attention span. I won't strictly control this but chances are if it's longer it won't win simply because I'll get bored.
X) See RULE IV!!! I mean it!
Anyways, have fun. If you have questions feel free to let me know. I'll comment on all I promise. Also, I'll give my honest opinion, my likes and dislikes. I won't lie or cushion things, but if you really want to win you can always change things around while the contest continues, I don't mind.
Oh and GOOD QUESTION, why ages 13-30 only? Here's my answer and I apologize if you don't agree but hey it's for your sake I can assure you that much:
I've analyzed people's poetry for a while and I've noticed that I can relate to or get a better grasp of poetry from people who fall within the age group of 13-30. It's really a way of keeping me from being biased because I'm more likely not to pick a poem from another age group than I am from this one. I just wanted to keep things fair and not let my bias get in the way of judging. Also, I don't really like 'immature' writing and a lot of that tends to come from preteens. I'm sure they'll get better but for their sake it's probably better they don't enter because I don't hold back on my judgments. As for the older folk, they're more experienced and tend to outshine the younger folk, so again, it's for the sake of being fair.
THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS TO THE AGE-LIMIT SO PLEASE MESSAGE ME IF YOU THINK YOU FIT THE GUIDELINES AND I'LL CONSIDER YOU.

If you're still up for another contest, I'm running one here: http://allpoetry.com/contest/2391999 so feel free to join! It's a bit of a challenge though. Anyways, again, congrats and keep writing!

Hehe I find it ironic you'll give out an honourable mention

If you want to give out more than one Gold, Silver and Bronze you could hold a seperate contest/s for the best writes and give them the trophies they deserve. Just a thought
Good luck! -
I'm almost 13......

Alright, I've read some of your stuff, I don't think you're quite up to the level of writing I'm looking for, but I think you have a chance so it's up to you if you want to enter or not. But yes, you're allowed to.

I was just wondering why you were only opening it to that age group...I mean I fall into that age group, but why is it just those people?

Fairplay, I can understand where you're coming from...though surely your bias keeping them out of the contest entirely is...somewhat unfair, I think it's more down to the individual than their age, bt that's just my opinion.
I find a lot of the whining "immature" poetry comes from my age group - mid-teens who all think they're depressed. I'm not saying that some of them aren't genuinely depressed, I just think a lot do it for attention. But that's off the point, good luck! x -
-
Precisely, that's why I'll consider some though, because you're right. Although maturity doesn't necessarily fit with 'age'--I always found myself far more mature than other 12 year olds at the time--it does normally predict potential accurately. However, like everything else, there's always an exception so if someone really wants to enter, I'll consider it judging from their previous work.

Good, I'm glad to hear

I shall have to find you one that is good that fits!
