Are you a 'Book Lover'?

Are You a Book Lover?

Do you collect books that you just might read one day,

Tell me about it!

GIVE ME A BOOK

Of all the gifts of life
When the toil of the day is o'er,
Give me a book and a fireside —
l ask for nothing more.

However torn or tattered,
However new or old,
A book to me at eventide
is worth its weight in gold.

Not till my heart grows weary,
And my eyelids close in sleep,
Shall I foresake my silent friends
And leave in others' keep.

It is from a vanity publication entitled Sunshine and Flowers by Maurice & Kay Ennals from Weymouth circa 1990

This contest is based around a  poem: ‘Book Lover’ by Robert Service
http://oldpoetry.com/opoem/20725-Robert-W-Service-Book-Lover

"I keep collecting books I know
I'll never, never read;
My wife and daughter tell me so,
And yet I never head.
"Please make me," says some wistful tome,
"A wee bit of yourself."
And so I take my treasure home,
And tuck it in a shelf."

Please tell me how you feel about books.

If you have a pre-write that would fit the criteria let me read that too.

Poetry or prose doesn't matter, it's what you say not how you say it that's important.

It doesn't have to be serious at all whatever you want to say - please keep the subject family friendly.

Do you buy a book to begin to read as soon as possible and year or so later it sits untouched upon your bookshelf or do you devour the book from cover to cover instantly?

Name some of the books you have yet to read – the more dust on them the better.

Please keep the subjects user friendly as all ages are invited to join in here.

Every entry will be commented on just before final judging.

Contest will run for 2 weeks. Silver, Bronze and HM’s will be decided upon when judging.

This contest is not anonymous. I look forward to sharing your book list.

    Books. The poor mans holiday.
I love to escape from the everyday world into the depths of books. With them I can visit Mars, commune with Chaucer, laugh with Thurber and so much more.
Of greatest joy in recent times has been sharing the thoughts of rhymers through the ages.
Poetry in praise of these bundles of joy is a great idea. I shall look forward to reading the offerings and hopefully will come up with something fresh myself.
