POWER OF THE PEOPLE-**NEED MORE ENTRIES**

As writers, poets, and journalists, I believe we the people of this planet have the obligation and the power to change the world. We are the voice of the people and have been given the talent and gift of persuasion to be their voice in our writings and the reading of them. We are writing the history of the common people, not the rich or royal as has been done in prior history. As we write about our current events, the laws we live by, and the laws that govern our government we paint the picture of our present to future generations.

There are several options to write about below, pick one or all of them and give me a write with passion. If you do not understand the statement, please look it up for further interpretation.

OPTIONS:

Option 1) We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Option 2) Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Option 3) Amendment II. A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Option 4) Amendment III. No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

Option 5) Amendment IV. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Option 6) Amendment V. No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Option 7) Amendment VI. In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.

Option 8) Amendment VII. In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

Option 9) Amendment VIII. Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

Option 10) Amendment IX. The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Option 11) Amendment X. The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

Write an essay, editorial, poem, prose, short story, thesis, etc.

I want to read what each statement of the above options means to you. I want to feel your passion, and be swayed by your conviction of that belief based on educated and researched interpretations.

You may write about option 1 or all 11 and enter as many times as you wish on any of the options. (Extra points for writes that cover all 11 options) No limit on entries each author may submit.

Pre-writes or new in this contest as long as it stays with the theme of the contest.

No restrictions on form (letter, poem, essay, prose, editorial) or length.

Your work MUST be titled.

Obvious Spelling and Grammar errors will be noted. Please use spell check as it really is your friend.

I will not hesitate to remove entries that contain:
Denigrating or insults to other belief systems
or Proselytizing

Honorable Mentions may be determined for more at time of judging and will be at my discretion for award amounts.

Though I dislike doing so, I am going to extend this contest for another two weeks due to the lack of entries. I apologize to those of you who have entered thus far, as I understand how frustrating that can be when you are waiting to see if you won or not. I believe there are more out there that wish to enter so I will do this just once, and if after two weeks I do not receive any more entries, I will close and judge the contest at that time anyway.   • Final notes:
    All entries that were left in this contest after weeding out and dq those who did not follow my largest pet peeve of Proselytizing, I was left with some tough choices to make. Every entry got better as I read each one in the list, and I changed my mind several times.

    One thing is for certain, more of you 'see' than don't when it comes to reading between the lines of the current political tension in its volatile, ready to explode arena.

    IMHO
    Our only hope as a species and a country is that we find more of us within our midst and are willing and able to persuade those who will be coming into power, that to continue on the path we are on is suicide.

    We have the power to change the world. All it takes is one step. That step is having the courage to say so, loudly, and eloquently, poking the bear continuously until that bear is so angry, the bear loses balance, and falls from the pedestal.

    We really do have a choice. We can live our life with honor and die trying to change what we know to be an abomination to humanity or we can live our life in denial and die doing nothing, cowering in a corner with a beaten spirit, watching the world go crazy on the news.

    I want to thank all of you for entering, and if I had the points, I would give more hm's than I was able to.

    i enjoy as 'mental exercise/ or mental masturbation' contemplating the BROADNESS of the issues described in the CONSTITUTION and its subsequent disputation - you chasllenge us to discuss/debate/synthesize the ideas/positions/allegiances that recquired the 'brightest thinkers' of the age to consult/agree/conform and to have that document changed/amended over all these years - there may be hope for our society yet thanks for sharing/challenging us regasrds zaj

    I was hoping these entries were suitable. Seems so. Thank you. I really appreciate this being judged not just by a kindred spirit but, like you am extremely concerned where the US is headed. Nearly everyone overseas that I speak to says, love Americans, hate the American administration. This government has done so much damage the average american would not believe it. It will impact and will keep impacting for many years to come. Thank you for this comp and this soapbox.
