As an American, I am gravely concerned. As a human being, I am appalled at the lack of return of our elected officials who ignored the repeal of the Posse Comitatus Act PCA, which violates intimately our American democratic tradition and jurisprudence. The PCA outlawed the execution of our laws by the militia of the marines/Army/Navy /Airforce as a Posse Comitatus.
One lone senator spoke out against it on Sept 19th, Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont and made note that 2007’s Defense Authorization Act contained a “widely opposed provision to allow the President more control over the National Guard [adopting] changes to the insurrection, making it easier for Mr. Bush or any president to use the military to restore domestic order against anyone exercising their first amendment to protest peaceably against a tyrannical regime.
In the Insurrection Act of 1807 is the set of laws that governs the President of the Unites States of America‘s ability to deploy troops within the United States to put restraints of lawlessness, insurrection and rebellion. This law limited the power of the President as much as possible relying on state and local government for initial response in the event of an insurrection.
This is no longer true as the new law entitled “Homeland Defense Technology Transfer Legislative Provisions” authorizes the Secretary of Defense to create a homeland consortium to organize the effectiveness of the DOD processes for identifying and deploying relevant DOD technology to fed, state and first responses.
In other words, the law facilitates the transfer of crowd control, weaponry designed to support police units. It builds on and codifies under dep’t of agreement achieved during the Clinton / Reno Regime.
As the president is getting less support, last I checked it was 41%, the Extreme Right Bible Belt, Bush and Cheney just like their rotten selves can legally declare they have the divine right to rule and should be emperor/dictator/King, you can name it whatever you will, it is an all too subtle attempt to usurp power so they can stay in the power.

i enjoyed this post as it was cogent, non-jingoistic, and appealed to the sensibilities of your 'political position' this is a 'good' subject for debate/conjecture and you handled it maturely. unfortunately the act of 1807 was largely a reaction to the 'artcles-of-confederaton' and as such was a post-symptom of the 'whiskey rebellion' and insurrections in pennsylavania and elsewheres where civil militias actively opposed 'official armies' headed by washington/hamilton to quell the ANTI-WHISKEY TAX RIOTERS and had a limited bearing on the corrupt nepotism/favoratism in effect in the awarding of government contracts. NEVERTHELESS these are issues that should be considered/fleshed-out by thoughtful individuals not prone to party animus. very good job thanks for sharing regards zaj

I hope I do too. But, as I have seen, most people do not wish to think about what is being done to our constitution, our planet, to our species, nor do they have the courage to stand up for what they believe in, but surrender their rights without so much as a whimper because they might die trying to change what is happening.
I like to explore the possibilities of what can be done, because we, the people, do have the power to change the world. I hope you are able to submit an entry to this contest.

I respect your right.
I respect your right to host this contest and your opinion. However I support my country more. Bush will leave office in less than a year. Why not wait and see what the elections bring in November. The hatred of those that believe in the bible, are conservative as well as hatred of any person based on their religion or not, race, gender or particular creed has to end somewhere. I chose not to enter this. -

First of all, if you had respect for my opinion, or me you would have really read what this contest is about. Second of all, there is no hatred expressed here of those who believe in the bible, nor hatred of any people, this is history in the making. The 41% who support Mr. Bush are in the bible belt of America, which if you were not aware of this fact are; the southern states such as Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, West Virginia, the Carolinas, Alabama, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, etc and Mr. Bush has already signed this law into being. I do not care enough about George Bush to hate him. You know NOT what you speak of, for you do NOT know me. You assume much and we both know how to spell
a-s-s-u-m-e.
What terrifies me is what he is doing to our constitution, how he is spreading hatred for others based on their religion or color of their skin, in his holier than thou arrogance. He has aggressed upon another third world country without provocation and those of us who still care about our constitution and our Bill of Rights as American citizens have proven it repeatedly. He continues to commit atrocious crimes and to violate our first amendment rights. He and his minion Dick Chaney are destroying this country and everything we stand for by violating every civil right we have. These rights were fought for and many hundred of thousands of people died to ensure YOU had your freedom of religion. Your opinion of my contest though it does not matter to me in the least, is far from any reality that exists.
We are talking about a man, standing in front of you, holding a bomb in his hands that is ready to go off, as his believers stand behind him and smile. If you want to be a leader in the Armageddon as you hold bible in hand while riding the war head as the entire planet explodes into oblivion, then you need to re-examine your values, look into your heart and know, without question, that the senseless killing of many life forms that is happening all over the planet is not only wrong, but an abomination to all that is sacred. I love my country, I back my constitution and will defend that constitution until my last dying breath. I do however fear and have never trusted my government.

Really.
You assume your own thing too do you not. One I live in Virginia. Two that makes me a southerner, I am aged 59 and I am a chisitian. Bush will leave the office of the Presidency and a new person most likely Barack Obama will be the President. Oh in case you did not learn from history what about JFK and the cuban missile crisis? We came within a hairs breath of annilihalation. I review each persons profile whenever I do a contest, there are those that would not appeal to me, just as I would not appeal to them. Speaking of those that died for me and my rights, quite a few dear were relatives of mine including brothers and nephews that still serve this county. We all have those freedoms for now but look out because once the constitution starts changing by politicians the whole shooting match is gone. I have been there, done that and just know this much. I trust in the Lord to know what he is doing, we cannot micromanage him. Whether things go south and it will continue not because of Bush or Clinton but because of the basic prophecy that is in the Bible. Yes I make no apologies to you or anyone for being a Christian and living in the south. Impeachment backfires on the opposing party, know that and know this that I have had a relative that served as a secretary to every Speaker of The House since LBJ to Foley. If you knew what she did you would know that history repeats itself. Impeachment backfired on the anti-Nixons and the anti-Clinton, it is too late to impeach George Bush. Will I be glad when he is out of office, yes but then again you must realize too that more pressure than ever will be on the new President to change what they claimed they will. Sorry but that won't happen, the general Congress is too happy with their state of affairs. This might be the last President elected. Simply put dear I love this country and its people but I love my creator more and it is in him that I trust. -
