CHALLENGE:
>The Scrap Box is loaded with all kinds of ideas. (From this moment, you cannot add anything to the Scrap Box. Anyone who does will face a 5 point penalty from their overall score.) Your goal is to find the best source of inspiration…but be quick…once you have found what you want to work with, you must REPLY to that post and say “I, -your username-, claim this.” You CANNOT claim something that has already been claimed. ALSO you CANNOT claim something, and then change your mind. Once you have claimed it, it is permanently yours. If you end up doing that, you will face [possibly another] 5 point penalty. To be blunt: wouldn’t that just plain suck? -Emphasis on the importance of following the rules- lol

THE CATCH: You must write over 150 words. No more than 500 words. If you go over, or under by like 10 or 20 words or something…don’t worry about it. I just want you to have a general idea of what we, the judges, want length-wise. RULE: you must include the word count. If you don’t do this, you won’t be penalized. (You’ll just look stupid.)

DEADLINE: Friday, February 22nd. 6PM EST.
[Extensions are possible upon request. The reasoning behind requesting must be valid. Valid, as in, being hospitalized. If you can’t get to the computer, then go to the library. If that doesn’t work, then you’re out of luck.]

For some of you, this is a make or break situation. Some of you need to step it up and show us why you deserve to be here. Best of luck to you!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on February 26, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 150, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 6 people
  • Final notes:
I just want to thank all of you for being in the contest. It is a great pleasure to be working with all of you, who have been taking this seriously; despite the lateness on most occasions during the contest. The seriousness is evident in your poems and your improvement. Congratulations on a job well done.

Most of you did an excellent job, while some took a step back in this round; however, the past is remembered; so if you find yourself at the bottom this round…do not worry…your past writes still reflect that you deserve to be here and may have just had a bad round. Nonetheless, I still say that everyone has improved.

    Here are the results:

Flatline could not finish her poem, therefore [by default] she was eliminated. I decided not to eliminate anyone else, because I believed all of you are worthy of another chance.

So the things we claim from the scrap box are merely for inspiration? Like, pick your own prompt from all of those?? And is there a limit on how many things we can take?

      good question

Yeah, you pick any prompt. As I said in the contest info, you can only choose ONE.

Some posts have multiple things for inspiration. In that case, you would specify what you have used for inspiration.

      Example: A post says this:

      Red
      Boat
      duck
      love

Then you would reply, and say

"I, Tangled Angle, claim this: 'red'"

Now if a person has a poem, can we claim the entire thing? Or if we want, can we just claim a stanza?

haha nah, if you look at my past contests, i usually give the top half of the bunch the awards.
i'm really bad about handing -points- out though.
i usually save those for the very end.
Usually top 6 [overall] get a crap load of points. :]

I'm really sorry about waiting until the last minute until posting my poem for Teen Idol, but I've been really working at it and I can't seem to get it up to the minimum word count. I know the excuse that my muse is conking out on me is no reason for an extenstion, so when it gets close to the due time, I'll post what I have so that you can judge everyone else.

    I'm really sorry.

It's alright, you were still in on time so that's all that matters, really. And besides..like i said.. if you went over or under the word limit a little bit, it wasnt a big deal. but yeah, glad you made it in on time.
