The Sound of Thunder and Rain

PROMPT:

You Will Hear Thunder

You will hear thunder and remember me,
And think: she wanted storms. The rim
Of the sky will be the colour of hard crimson,
And your heart, as it was then, will be on fire.

That day in Moscow, it will all come true,
when, for the last time, I take my leave,
And hasten to the heights that I have longed for,
Leaving my shadow still to be with you.

Anna Akhmatova

Your prompt is very interesting. There is a poem by Anna Akhmatova that I've always liked:

I love all of her work and yes that one is a particular favourite of mine also... I love how she can make silence and the ordinary so beautiful

Storms inspire the most beautiful poetry, as is clear with that lovely piece and hopefully with the entries you'll receive.

    proof of a sound barrier

    proof of a sound barrier

    Sound creates our basic instinct
Even before we see we hear
Our impressions created by sonic waves
Drowning us in damp gummy florida
Where clouds seem to hang on my shoulders
    There is always a thunderstorm
    Rumbling around rolling over
Clouds like dragons snapping and bellowing
And there pressed to the window screen
As if glued or stuck by magic
    A tiny frog
    No bigger than my thumbnail
    Dark brown with black spots
As if it was a piece of driftwood bark
Hurled on shore by roiling rivers of wind
I would have never noticed except
For its guggling to others who joined
    A chorus making much noise
Sort of like an offtune flock of ducks
Yelling harshly to the rain as
The dark angry sky screamed overhead
    Accompanying this frog chorus
    In between the lightning flashes
Then the sharp thunder cracks as if
Cymbals were reverberating just by my ears
    Terriffic rumblings that shook
    Cinderblock buildings and fragile bodies
    And then it was over
    The clouds scurrying away
Taking shelter back in the den of winds
    Leaving only fleeting glimpses
Of feathery silhouettes bruised by shadows
And the frog diappeared wherever frogs go
    Along with the brief serenade
    Because sound gives everything
    Its proper weight.
