I want poetry about the ***deep*** private place of friendship between women. I want you to use a personal experience, one that changed your life. I want to read about the love, friendship and understanding that binds women together.
Please use one of the of the 6 quotes below as your prompt (the topic you write about) and put that quote in your authors comments.
1) "The loneliest woman in the world is a woman without a close woman friend."
2) "Do not allow yourself to be imprisoned by any affection. Keep your solitude. The day, if it ever comes, when you are given true affection there will be no opposition between interior solitude and friendship, quite the reverse. It is even by this infallible sign that you will recognize it." -Simone Weil
3) No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow.
4) "Stay" is a charming word in a friend's vocabulary.
5) It's the friends you can call up at 4 a.m. that matter
6) The verb "to love" in Persian is "to have a friend." "I love you" translated literally is "I have you as a friend," and "I don't like you" simply means "I don't have you as a friend."

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on March 4, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 2 people
- Final notes: I added 2 honorable mentions, because... these poems were too beautiful not to award something. I also added points for 2nd and 3rd. These were amazing pieces of art =)
1st - The “Joy” In My Weekend - http://allpoetry.com/poem/3873597
My favorite lines were:
There was never
a moment
of pretense
or mistrust.
I choose this to win first place for many reasons.. but mostly because it was beautiful and I had the chance once to “stay” and I didn’t… I’m glad this poet did. =)
2nd - She Knows My Horizon: For Nicolette - http://allpoetry.com/poem/3899551
My favorite lines:
She breathes life
Into wings weary with sorrow.
Friendship between women is so beautiful. I love that you have shared the bond you share with your “sister” with me. =)
3rd- Best Friends 4 Ever and Ever, Amen - http://allpoetry.com/poem/3872191
I loved that after each few lines the name was repeated, “Susan” that made this so personal to me. It drew me in and made me want to know this friendship as my own. Beautifully done.
Runner ups:

I didn't realize I had gotten Gold here! Thank you so much. One of the best weekends ever was spent with Joy. We acted like college girls on a vacation from studies. I feel honored to have won the Gold here. Thanks again!
