So, this contest is a bit of a mix-up, I guess. I want stories that use concepts of poetry to create an interesting environment, such as the epic poem Beowulf, or my own poem, Loliconcept (http://allpoetry.com/poem/3788027 WARNING: Contains content not suitable for easily offended audiences). I'd like to see metaphor, rhyme, rhythm, stanzas, and other common factors of poetry used in some combination to tell a story. You don't have to use all of them, or even maintain the same form throughout the poem, but splicing them about would be pretty cool, and I LOVE anything that experiments a bit.
Alternatively, you could write a poem that uses the concepts of stories (yeah, I know, just rewording the same request), using writing mechanics like suspense, foreshadowing, characterization, plot within a poem of any length.
I like dark things, so it might captivate MY interests a bit better if you go in a dark direction. Not necessarily like vampire/demon dark, but however YOU do dark or twisted. However, I'm a fairly open minded person, so going against the grain is also fairly recommended, and if you can pull it off correctly, you'll score major "browny points" if you can amuse me with something more life-based, like a chick-flick.
Also, I haven't ever read a tragedy that I liked, though I really would like to find one. Hint, hint!
Depending on how many poems I get, I may also extend the contest. Picture also unrelated, but funny none-the-less.
Edit:
Apologies - things going down right now, need a bit more time to judge. NO NEW ENTRIES ACCEPTED. Will DQ as needed.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on March 4, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 5 people
- Final notes: Time constraints and various home/work/school problems along with a ton of beautifully hard-to-judge poetry made this contest a bitch to judge, but... eventually I found what I feel is the highest quality gold in a Cave of Wonders style treasure horde. Congratulations to the winners, and congrats to all participants for giving the best rubies, diamonds, pearls, and golds you could offer. It's been a blast!

Bookmarked... I'll try to come up with something.
Also... if you like story-poems... you should check out "Horatius" on Oldpoetry... very long, but very well done (I'm memorizing it...)
"But hark the cry is Astur
And Lo! the ranks divide
And the great lord of Luna
Comes with his stately stride
Upon his ample shoulders
Clangs loud the four-fold shield
And in his hand he shakes the brand
Which none but he can wield"
- From Horatius
Best of luck with your contest! -
