Ben Kingsley said, "Study nature as the countenance of God."
Write a poem about a powerful encounter with nature...that perhaps touches the divine.
Write about being blown away by the power and beauty of nature.
Suggestions...
Rushing waterfalls
tranquil pond
a walk in the woods
sitting in your own backyard
animals in their natural habitats
gardens
Helpful hints:
use sensory detail
strong imagery conveyed with minimal words
brevity - 30 lines or fewer
Mastery of English language impresses me!
(but I am also happy to help with proofreading if anyway wants that sort of help...just ask)
Please...
No sticky caps
No foul language

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on February 3, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 5 people
- Final notes: Thank you all for your wonderfully written and moving poems about nature. I had to read and reread many times to make my final decisions. PLEASE understand that there is a certain amount of subjectivity to my judging as I am choosing winners not only on writing ability but on my personal connection to the particular poem. ALL the entries were well done and enjoyable to read.
Gold goes to A Walk in the Sun for its voice, use of poetic device, and simple yet powerful spirituality.
Silver to Chivalry's Not Dead for use of poetic device, rhyme scheme, and tying nature and spirituality so beautifully.
Bronze to Of Sand and Stone for technical brilliance and originality.
HMs are in no particular order but each one affected me deeply.
Thanks again and I hope to see everyone's poems in future contests of mine.
