Remember the comment that we [the judges] have given you; apply the advice to this round’s poem. The key to doing well is being original, concise, focused, creative [metaphor/imagery], and cohesion. There are other things too, but I’m just going to keep it basic for now. Do not use clichés, do not use unnecessary rhyme unless it really does add to the poem. For love of my sanity do not write too much, because a few of you like to be [too] wordy.

Put your username in your notes, or suffer a one point penalty from Tyler. Helen and Heather don't have to penalize you; that's up to them. We need to know who is writing what so keeping track of scores is easier.

All poems will be scored 1-10 just like last round.

Line limit: 100 lines
If you go over a little, it’s not a big deal;
but I just want you to know what we’re expecting.

Deadline: Monday, January 28th. 6PM.

PS. Remember that improvement doesn’t happen overnight. It’s like evolution, it takes time. If you are losing confidence, do not give up yet.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on February 2, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Honorable mention: 4 people
  • Final notes:
(Title of poem, author, Helen’s score, Tyler’s score, & Heather’s score)

    Universal Optimism - Ah.Sosha: 9.1, 9.5, 8.0
Boundless Must Soon Bounded Be - She Has My Heart: 9.3, 8.2, 7.8
    Elapse - Flatline: 9.4, 9.5, 9.2
    Blank - LostintheShadows33: 8.1, 7.8, 7.8
    Obedient Patience - Catauthor: 9.2, 9.5, 8.7
Hummingbird Heartbeat - olly olly oxen free: 9.6, 9.8, 9.6
    Treading Water - Rockerchkpoet: 8.4, 8.2, 7.7
Now The Seasons Always Come Late - Raazi: 8.8, 9.0, 9.0
When Clocks Take Years To Strike - Asfand: 9.8, 9.8, 9.5
    Lantern - Tam Lin: 9.5, 9.4, 8.9
Little Power Big Corruption - Dark Whispers: 8.7, 7.8, 7.4
Flowers for the Widow, a Widow to her past - Lucy Sky-Diamond: 9.0, 9.5, 9.

Because Karamel Kandy and Rex Roosevelt did not meet not just the original deadline, but the two extensions, both have been eliminated from the contest.

Which means we are down to our top 12!

    [[Metaphormosis]]
    Asfand (29.1)
    Flatline (28.1)
    Tam Lin (27.8)
    Lucy Sky-Diamond (27.5)
    Dark Whispers (23.5)
    Rex Roosevelt (00.0)

    Average score: 22.67

    [[Symbolicosis]]
    Olly Olly Oxen Free (29.0)
    Catauthor (27.4)
    Raazi (26.8)
    Ah.Sosha. (26.6)
    She Has My Heart (25.3)
    Rockerchkpoet (24.3)
    Lostintheshadows33 (23.7)
    Karamel Kandy (00.0)

    Average score: 22.8875

Therefore, Metaphormosis loses. Normally, the bottom two on the losing team would be eliminated; however, in this case, because we had two people not enter, those two are automatically eliminated.

    [Author: Round 1 Rank + Round 2 Rank + Round 3 Rank = Total]
    Karamel Kandy: (2 + 2 + 13 = 17 points)
    Rex Roosevelt: (4 + 8 + 13 = 25 points)

Because Karamel Kandy has placed higher than Rex Roosevelt, overall, during all rounds considered; she has the lowest score out of her and Rex; and because she has a lower score, she has placed 13th, and Rex Roosevelt has placed 14th.

The next round will be posted in a few hours. Congratulations to all of you for making it to the top 12.

    Thursday January 24th o.O !!!

Is that the date which we have to have given our partner the prompt, or is it the final poem?

Not complaining or anything, but if we get really stuck are we allowed to ask for another prompt?

      Yes.

but if that person doesn't write you back with a prompt in time then I don't want to hear "Oh I didn't have enough time" -sometimes it's better to just go with what you get.
Then again, if to you, that's a risk worth taking, then go for it.
