Twilight

"It's too late when they've gone to shed a tear,

nature won't change...though the ways

it was part of yourselves you were keeping near

for the old one was all your yesterdays.

And the old one would say, "Look to your son,

please my dear, waste not your sorrows.

I'm at peace, at last my day is done-

the children are your tomorrows."

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on January 23, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 350, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50
  • Final notes:
Irene Walton was my maternal grandmother and died of cancer on 24th October 1990, aged 65. She was the poet of our family and a psychic too and when she passed, she gave her gifts to me. "Twilight" was a poem written in 1988, when she first discovered her illness and although doctors insisted they could cure her, she decided it was her time to go and refused treatment. A brave choice, in my opinion and one she could only be respected for.

I chose the winners for this contest for the following reasons:

Gold...this truly is a beautiful piece that touched my soul and a must-read for all of you.

Silver...done in form and portraying the essence of my grandmother's poem perfectly.

Bronze...this also captured the essence in which my grandmother's poem was written in and had an easy flowing rhyme too.

You all wrote good pieces and I thank each and every one of you for taking the time to enter my contest. This one meant alot to me.

    "Look at this day
for yesterday is but a dream,
and tomorrow is but a vision.

    But today well lived,
makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
and every tomorrow a vision of hope."
