Because I didn't send out individual notes to poets-
This contest's closing date has been revised to close at midnight (EST) February 2nd.
UPDATE!
So sorry about how long this has taken.. Gill has been hugely busy at work with a move and I have the flu from hell- We hope to get in here and put our minds together this weekend.
Personification: The metaphorical representation of an animal or inanimate object as having human attributes--attributes of form, character, feelings, behavior, and so on. As the name implies, a thing or idea is treated as a person.
Examples:
Snow Fence
by Ted Kooser
The red fence
takes the cold trail
north; no meat
on its ribs,
but neither has it
much to carry.
Late September
by Ted Kooser
Behind each garage a ladder
sleeps in the leaves, its hands
folded across its lean belly.
There are hundreds of them
in each town, and more
sleeping by haystacks and barns
out in the country- tough old
day laborers, seasoned and wheezy,
drunk on the weather,
sleeping outside with the crickets.
Thanks to Nurse Chilly for joining and hatching this plan with me.
Please reserve your spot now with an item!

Great idea nonetheless. Good luck with this! -

The Old Canoe
I saw her one afternoon brookside,
laying out across the sandy bank,
pads and paddles all neatly stowed.
Her curved belly glowed redly in afternoon sun,
glistening with droplets of a midday swim.
She'd soon retire for the winter;
long cold days in the dark boathouse,
yearning for the return of summer.

Thank you so much. You two certainly make us work for these challenges don't you? (I have the mental stretch marks to prove it!(
