This contest exists for the dual purposes of reading great poetry and thanking those who keep me here. I was a rank beginner when ecrivain01 invited me here. The poets on my favorites list have inspired, improved, and challenged me. Without them, I would have stopped before I really started.
This contest is open only open to those on my faves list.
http://allpoetry.com/favorite/show/Just+Rob
There are likely many of you who know you are only missing from this list because I forgot to click you there. If you suspect that to be the case just IM me & I'll fix that.
Rules,
1. My favorites only
2. Do what you do. If I was qualified to inspire you, you would not be on this list.
I'll leave this open for a good while.
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on March 1, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 4000, Silver: 500, Bronze: 500, Honorable mention: 29 people
- Final notes: I actually kept this anonymous, {for the most part} by not scrolling down to comments.
This was the most subjective job of judging I ever did. The quality of entries make this contest read like a VERY good anthology. As EVERY poem here would likely have won gold in other contests, I have awarded honorable mentions to everyone. The entries were just so good, the judging so much a matter of the poem's impact on one small mind, that I felt it was only right. My first short list held eighteen poems.
It's only fair to mention that "Panurge Tells His Tale", and "Morning Song" were tied with two of the top pieces for days, with the difference only a quick read of four right before I pulled the trigger.
You are my teachers, keeping me working away to try to become your peer. The written word is alive and well here, hiding in nooks and crannies. I was very happy to have rhyme on the short list. I wish more free verse writers would include it in their bag of tricks. Thank you all for coming out to play
and for setting the bar so high.
You all won...
"tonight, your words are old - dodoed in hunger" wouldn't click to the finalist list, {a glitch of some sort}but belongs there. I will send the points to the author.

Teachers... bah, I'm more like a student that sits in the back, daydreams or doodles.

It's people/poets/teachers like you that keep me here.
Bookmarked hon.
Thank you.

Your doodles
make my best efforts seem clumsy.

I remember you entering my first contest with Nessa when you were new to the site.
This may call for one of our old sessions my friend.
Honoured, and truly, we are all student and teacher.

Ready...Set...
Hee, Hee, that would be a rip!!

I live, I learn. You are being humble, as usual, Rob. We are both students, I suppose (and everyone who strives will ever be). I have this bookmarked, my friend.

Congratulations to Darcy, Zayra & Allyce...to everyone who entered & best of all, for having the good sense & talent enough to be on Rob's list of favorites. (I exclude myself, of course, bein' the humble critter I is.)
I love everyone's writing in this contest. But I gotta tell ya, Sweetness; Guy's piece stunned me. As his talent always does. "I knew Panurge when"...Rob, you are a generous & gentle man, my dear Friend. Thank you for hosting such impeccable contests & for gathering the best to your breast. A person is defined by the company they keep, it seems...& I love all of the flowers you've chosen for your garden. Be well, Poets & Scribes. It's an honor to be among you.

Professionally, I do teach creative writing to teens. Poetically, you have taught me more than you will ever know. I am bookmarking this contest.
I love You my Brother Rob!

You got me the first time I read a work of yours about Carhartt, which my husband adorns daily. Love a man in construction clothes.
Always ♥

Ahh grins at Jan's comment.. and then the Wenches and Wretches.. we all have come so far.. one thing has remained.. Your stoic presence in a pair of boots..
Thank you..

"If I was qualified to inspire you..."
Humility in a Scribe is a very good thing. However...you have inspired far more people than you might ever know, far more often than you could possibly realize, Sweetness. I gotta admit, though...this contest skeers me.
I've read several of the entries already...Dammmnnn. I don't envy your task of judging, Rob. I'll try to hitch up my britches & come up with somethin' halfway worthy of ya.
Thank you for Being, my dear Friend. Good luck to all who enter...& congratulations for bein' on the favorites list of one of the finest humans there ever was, is & ever will be...Be well, Poets & Scribes.

I hope you do leave it open for awhile, Rob. I've got something brewing but haven't penned it yet. Hopefully I'll make it in time! Either way, I look forward to reading these.

I'll keep it open for awhile. I really hope to read you here...

Sir, you are a sweet soul holding such a grand contest with good poets. I'll be back to read the entries. Best of luck to the participants

I can't believe
you weren't on the list yet. To quote the best movie ever, "You are invited!"
I have extended the time.

funny I've just written for this then came back and saw the image again, I'd forgotten what it was
kinda interesting with what I wrote -
What an impressive list of favorites here. I think this will prove to be one of the best contest, by way of the entries, here on AP. Best of luck Rob, by the way, you've been on my favorites list since shortly after I joined AP

Thank you
Anything good in my own work is, in large part, due to the influence of the generous spirits appearing above. -
Keeeerist,
NOW yer on the list. C'mon in.

I started out just to read a few of these poems to try to see your reason for calling them your teachers... well, it didn't take long to see why. I have read about half of them so far I think and I'm coming back to read them all.
I've never seen a finer collection of poems all in one contest before. Some of the poets, I'm already familiar with, some are new to me and I'm so very much impressed with them all. I certainly don't envy you having to judge this contest, Rob... how does one choose between best and best??!!
I have to do other things right now but as the words of a famous guy known as the Terminator... "I'll be back" But mine is a promise, not a threat

My new friend,
you are invited... -

Wow, I feel honored, though my poetry may pale next to yours and the contest entries, I'll do my best to enter something worthy

Well, I looked and then wondered, where the fuck is DP Robertson? There appears to be a gaping hole in this list. I have a charming ode about a dwarf with a huge schlock and the Olsen twins in a vat of jelly at the ready.

Now see,
thats what I mean...
The oversight has been corrected. C'mon in.
Also, extended to the 20th.

Good thing you'v extended the closing date, Rob... I am working on something - hope to finish it by this weekend, lol.

Dearest Rob, you are without doubt one of the elite on this site and anywhere else you deign to post. And not only an elite, but a poet that knows songs only sung in the heart and hung on the moons. I am humbled by your generosity and loving spirit, and although I know I wrote the piece, it is always your contests that brings the best out of all of us. To you, goes the real prize...that of a poet incomparable and a soul that shines.
Thank you so very much. For all that you do...
-
I've watched this since I missed out due to personal circumstances - but of course you did a marvelous job with this one, Rob. Congrats to the winners - I understand why you had Guy and Al's poems up there at first
!!!
Wonderful poetry here.

I am hardly a teacher.. More like a simple student walking through this fog we call life.. But I have been lucky to meet some interesting and wonderful people along the way...
Thank You Rob..
