Look Who's Coming To the Oldpoetry Dinner

This is a contest for poems or columns.

What I want is a description of which poet you would invite to a small dinner party being organised by the hosts of out sister site Oldpoetry. www.oldpoetry.com

Tell me who you would invite and why.
Tell me what you think of their writing.
Tell me what you think of the actual person.

The only limitation on your choice is that they MUST be poets whose work (or some of it) appears on the Oldpoetry site.

***** In response to a member you may invite upto 3
***** poets to share your table but you must give
***** explanations for each choice.

If you chose to write a poem instead of a column, the style is up to you.

A few points to remember.

No adult language or imagery.
Dictionaries exist to be used.
Links to particular poets and poems at Oldpoetry would be nice.
This will be decided on your words and not your chosen poet. It doesn't have to be one of my favourites!

GOLD 300
SILVER 200
BRONZE 100

other points for good poems according to how I feel.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on January 23
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100
  • Final notes:
Whilst not overburdened with quantity there has been plenty of quality in the entries here. I would recommend them all as a good read.
However there has to be a winner in a competition and I have to give "Pride of Place" pride of place not just to allowm me to make that attrocious pun but because, in my mind, it has done exactly what I wanted a poem in this competition to do.
    GOLD: PRIDE OF PLACE
    SILVER: ARISE AND AWAKE
    BRONZE: TEA WITH TAB

I must also make a special mention to THE LEARN'D POET who was just edged out of contention at the last minute.

Thanks you all, readers and writers, for checking out this contest.

      HI!
If by your question you mean multiple entries then there is no problem.
If you mean multiple guests in a single invite then the answer is OK but keep it sensible. Assume there is no more than 4 guests (including yourself) at each table and make sure that your entry talks about the who, what and why for each of your invitees.

Thank you all for taking the time and making the effort to join this contest. Every entry is so much appreciated by Jim and myself.
Any reference to a poem or poet on Oldpoetry is always seen by us as a positive step towards appreciation of classic poetry, some well known - others not so. Each time a comment is made, or, in your cases a poem written with reference to one or more of our poets it makes what we do, the long hours researching, locating and typing from books so worthwhile.
Thank you for helping us to appreciate what we have achieved on Oldpoetry as we can , and sometimes do, become quite blase` after years on the site.
    Thanks again,
    Von
