The Word Bank from "H" "E" Double Hockey Sticks

Alrighty my dear poets.

This is essentially the first time I have hosted a contest with another member of Allpoetry.

My dear friend and Ap big brother graciously donated 7,000 points to this contest.

We have been harboring an idea that started as a joke about having a single reward for this contest, a gold trophy worth 15,000 points.

We thought that perhaps this would give people the proper motivation for a somewhat difficult contest.

But I have faith in you. I know that there are many of you out there who are more than capable of the task at hand. To you, it will be simple!

So here is the task at hand. The two of us have put our brains together to make a list of 20 words.

All you need to do is write us a poem, 20 lines or less, using all of our combined words.

Sounds simple, right? Well it is!

Here are the words:

1) Apathy

2) Masochistic

3) Decipher

4) Timeless

5) Cosmos

6) Connection

7) Ambivalent

8) Progression

9) Genius

10) Imagination

11) diatribe

12) teratoma

13) massacre

14) dissection

15) prune

16) ebullient

17) pie

18) braille

19) inheritance

20) cinch

It may be a challenge, but that's the fun of it.

You may use a variation of our words, but it will be to your benefit to use them in their own pristine form.

Alright, get going!

Abby & Steve.

ps Both of us will be commenting on every poem, and both of us will judge it together. That is all.

Actually it is pretty apparent there is a break from 10 to 11 in the word bank ... AND as one may assume, I'd never suggest Apathy, as a word. heh So who created what, well, ughm... follow the white rabbit.

you know what?! I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN LITTLE BOY.

and having such ridiculously complex words (for yes they are somewhat complex to most people) takes away from the smoothness of the poem! so i thought i would simplify it. a words bank needs at least SOME simpler words. sheesh.

there you go you hurt my feelings.

Oh come now. prune? pie? inheritance? massacre? Over half of these words are quite understandable. If they are not, then www.dictionary.com is available. Once you know what teratoma is, its easy as well.

Ya know what, I'm gonna write a 20 line poem with these 20 words. And I'm gonna use internal rhyme!

It'll be all right though, we have some talented poets on here ...

well if you wanted me to use all words that required a dictionary for the poets to write them, i could easily have done that!

              (grumbles) internal rhyme...

true but why are you making a stink about it?! what are we even arguing about?

oh thats right, you were being mean to me. so i got pissed and sais something snotty in return. i remember now! NOT ALL OF US ARE AS SMART AS YOU and im an idiot. there i said it!

actually, I thought this was being light-hearted. I only suggested that there were words that you created and I created and where it broke ... *shrug* I wasn't even arguin, atleast that's what I thought.

    To Min- inister ONLY

what is going on? are you guys insane? have you gone completely bonkers? how the hell do you expect me to put all those words into anything, if I don't know what half of them mean. WTF?? how about I copy & paste all of the words and put each of them on a single line. that would give me 20 lines now wouldn't it. I thought my family is supposed to love me.. what do you call this? I say you both are driving me nuts.

    you loving sister

Does it have to be those exact words? What if, for example, I want to use "cinched" instead of "cinch"?

Abby and I conferred and you may use a variation of our words, but if you are able to work without the variation, it will be to your benefit.

      Thanks

I added my poem - but for some reason I can't figure out, the title didn't edit properly. So yes, it says "Slot saved" - but really, it should say "Battle of Life".

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

The title looks to be "Battle of Life" now. You should be good to go.

      Best of luck!

Oh man. You have no idea how excited I am. It's rare that I get a challenge. The last word bank challenge that I actually struggled with was when I picked 40 random words from a dictionary and set myself to write a 100 word poem. Talk about a struggle...but so fun.

I think there should be more words. Specifically nouns, or even names. One of the best poems I ever wrote (in my own opinion) was using a word bank with words like Rubik, the inventor of the Rubiks cube, Eden, fortune cookie, Newton, and the like. Now that will force a person to think
