Nessie

Your inspiration is...

The Loch Ness Monster (Nessie)

and/or

Kelpies in general
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelpie

Rhyme and meter highly preferred.

You're welcome to be inspired by the new film "The Water Horse" as well.

"The Loch Ness "monster" -- affectionately known as "Nessie" -- is an alleged plesiosaur-like creature living in Loch Ness, a long, deep lake near Inverness, Scotland. Many sightings of the "monster" have been recorded, going back at least as far as St. Columba, the Irish monk who converted most of Scotland to Christianity in the 6th century. Columba apparently converted Nessie, too; for it is said that until he went out on the waters and soothed the beast, she had been a murderess."

With many different styles, this proved to be a difficult contest to judge.

I do wish it had received more entries, but I believe that the winners are worthy and very nicely done.

Thank you for taking the time to enter and congratulations!

It appears your category list for some inexplicable reason contains Ireland.

It's so annoying the way people have to make obnoxious and dumb comments...

"Ireland" is in the categories because the monk who supposably soothed the beast was Irish (as stated in the already posted quote), therefore if someone searches "Ireland" I'd like this to come up. I was trying to get the contest up quickly because I had to leave, but I've added "Scotland" as well now to satisfy you. Maybe next time you won't comment on something you're not so familiar with.

    A bit of fun

    Hi F
I wrote this for a bit of fun, but it disappeared
    Hope you enjoy:

    I know Nessie,
    more or less-ie
    lives beneath the loch
    she looks so fine
    when I drink wine
    a liebfraumilch or hoc

    she'll say hello,
    then has to go
    cannot stay here too long
    too many eyes,
    I can't disguise
    I feel I don't belong

    but you’re my friend,
    I won't pretend,
I love my new found brine
    A better life,
    no toil nor strife
I now live in loch Fyne

    WD
