Teacher Contest

  • Teacher Contest

This is a contest for all AP teachers and professional literature teachers. I have invited a few non-teachers to this contest only because I feel they are good enough to meet this challenge. If you teach or are retired from teaching please let me know where you have taught and I won’t DQ your entry

I’m looking for the best so this will be fun. I want you to use my prompt but the poem should be composed in the style or form that you teach here on AP. Take your time because this contest will not close early.

The general characteristics of your poem may include:

    figurative language
    rhyme and euphony
    meter
    poetic devices
    formal accepted form
    free verse
    blank verse

This contest should make you think a bit that’s why the point value is high.

Prompt: I challenge you to write an anagram. The anagram may be the title with the poem reflecting one or more of the anagrammed words or perhaps an acrostic; or both. Really blow my mind by using an anagram in your poem in a way that I haven’t thought of.

Those of you that know me know that I am impressed with technical writing ability and poetic device so pick up your pen and have fun.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on January 13, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 2000, Silver: 1000, Bronze: 500, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:
Gold winner is: “Pride and Mercy” by: BellaD
My reason for choosing this poem as winner is evident. Not only did it meet the contest challenge but there is the anagram “Redemption” in every line of the poem. It’s also an acrostic. Then to top it off since I’m the Sestina teacher here on AP, she composed it in a Tritina thus reading the judge very well. The poem has flow, image and shows an amazing talent.

Silver winner is: “Agrarian Mottle” by: PerVirtuous Allan
This is a Triolet and the work invested in this piece is evident. I had a difficult time not awarding this poem gold. The second half of every line in the poem is an anagram of the first half a truly unbelievable feat. The title is also an anagram “Agrarian Mottle = Anagram Triolet”. Now the reason it didn’t win gold is because the title of the poem does not in my mind complement the content of the poem.
Mottle = to mark or diversify with spots or blotches of a different color or shade.
    Agrarian = agricultural.
The poem it’s self went from writing for someone a garden rose and I couldn’t see the relationship to spotty land. So the poem is amazing and the images are confusing.

Bronze winner is: “Explosive Ideals” by: Laura Lamarca
The anagram it’s self makes sense and relates to the power and purpose of the poem. The poem also has an acrostic which added to the difficulty of composing. I found the write dark and depressing yet brutally truthful. This is a poem that the world should read.

Thank you all for entering this contest, it was a difficult challenge and you all pulled it off with flying colors.

    Love,
    Amera♥

    Please, please, please!

Before I go blind would you adjust colour of fonts to make it all legible? Diabetes almost blinded me before it was diagnosed and although improved, eyestrain is still a problem. I cannot take part in this competition as it is. All fonts have to be pale (yellow, pink, etc) on dark backgrounds.
I have three prewritten poems to hold my place if I cannot--through workload--meet the deadline.
    One only?
    Terry

Amera, it was not your fault

        Thank you.

No one had reason to consider that our teachers need to be taught elements of design as part of their training. It is time to change that.

I would not be pleased to be asked to change a page that probably looked elegant. I am sorry I can still not see the titles, and much else still has no contrast and is hidden from me. I will not be commenting where names are hidden, so don't expect a poem from me.

Why don't I just hilight it?
Again, why should I HAVE to; you wanted to keep it secret. Having ruined my welcome, I wish you all success in the competition.

    Amera,
I know that you are looking for writes from AP teachers and professional literature teachers. You know me very well, an instructor in mathematics. I know the level of competition in this contest will be astonishing. I don't expect to win anything, but I would be honoured to enter your contest. If I qualify, great! However, if I don't I truly understand
    Bookmarked anyway!
I want to read some amazing writes
    Have Fun!
    ~David~

I can whip a mono-rhymed sestina on you in a quick minute. That being said, I shall partake of this most vile and evil challenge on my own. I then shall make you write free-verse in order to see it.
    You rock, my elf.
    Love, Cinn

Amera, I am sorry I was unable to get something written in time for this one. You had some wonderful talent in here and I would have enjoyed being part of it. Hands the teacher a fresh "apple" and apologizes for not having the homework done. It won't happen again teach! Congratulations to the winners and everyone that took part in this wonderful competition. Everyone should take a bow for their work. Love and God bless all of you, Joyce
