Write THREE-Lined, succinct poems as a chain of poems(yet discretely distinctive) about Nature, in January 2008 through images gleaned from near your home.

ALL ENTRANTS SHOULD ACT AS JUDGES ALSO, AS LONG AS DISINTEREST PREVAILS. I SHALL BE CHIEF ARBITER OF THIS CONTEST.

LYNDON.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on January 30, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 660, Silver: 360, Bronze: 130, Honorable mention: 1 people
  • Final notes:
This contest has been difficult for all of us. No Haiku, according to our standard [Haikumonk; Lyndon; myron], were written. Going by my own judgment, myron's excellent commentaries and Haikumonk's appraisals (I ignored self-judging because of partial participation ~ apologies to compliers), we have, at last, a result.

Gold trophy: "Winter Vignettes [congratulations to grannyeri].

Silver Trophy to "Winter Haiku Trio" by Pamela A Lamppa (Congratulations Pamela).

Bronze Trophy: "Waiting for Snow" [Congratulations Carly].

Honorable Mention: " First Snow" [Congratulations Joy].

I hope all onlookers realize that this was a Winkling contest and hours were spent agonizing over the nature of the contest and the fairness to the poets involved. I could have deleted the contest, but be proud, contestants. With me, this was never an option.
    Lyndon. xxxx

    haiku understanding

i read through all the poems in this contest, but couldn't find any which addressed one of the more important aspects of haiku, which is: a juxtaposition of two sense images.

most of the entries here are 17 syllable poems which express thoughts and opinions about nature - but i'm not sure that's enough.

    yours in haiku,
    myron.

    CONTEST

Hi Ron - i've read through all the entries once again and even though some of the poets have made changes, i still can't find any "true haiku" which i feel deserve an award. but then i'm a hard judge and people don't like me for being one.

it's very difficult to write ONE good haiku, so asking contestants to write a chain of 3 is an extremely difficult task.

Altho i can't find any haiku here, i do feel there is good poetry here and most of the entries followed this guideline of your contest:

Write THREE-Lined, succinct poems as a chain of poems(yet discretely distinctive) about Nature, in January 2008 through images gleaned from near your home.

So perhaps you could judge the winners, using that as your criteria?

sorry i could not be of any help to you.

best wishes to you and the poets who entered this demanding contest.

    yours in haiku,
    myron.
