Rhythms of Rispetto

Hello Talented Poets! Welcome to Rhythms of Rispetto. Sounds cool doesn't it?

BLUE REW and I are back again with a new contest to rock you into the new year. It should be a great time for all.

In this contest we would like you to write a Rispetto (specs are below). Within this tight little form, we would like you to personify an element of nature with the rhythm of a dance.

Some dance examples are:

A Waltz - A popular ballroom dance characterized by a step, slide, and step in 3/4 time.
A Polka - A fast, lively Central European dance.
A Cha-Cha - A rhythmical Latin dance which originated in the 1940's as a modified form of Mambo.

Or, for those of you who like it a little more risqué we have:

A Minuet - A slow and stately Baroque dance in 3/4 time.
A Cotillion - An elaborate ballroom dance with frequent changes of partner.
A Fandango - A lively Spanish dance performed by a couple.
A Beguine - A vigorous Caribbean ballroom dance that originated in the French West Indies; similar to the rumba.

Mind you these are only suggestions, you may pick any dance that tickles your toenails.

Rispetto

A Rispetto, an Italian form of poetry,
is a complete poem of two rhyme quatrains
with strict meter.

The meter is usually iambic tetrameter
with a rhyme scheme of abab ccdd.

A Heroic Rispetto is
written in Iambic pentameter,
usually featuring the same rhyme scheme.

And we think you can all figure out an element of nature.

A personification is a figure of speech that gives an inanimate object or abstract idea human traits and qualities, such as emotions, desires, sensations, physical gestures and speech.

OK So, Rispetto, using personification of an element of nature with the rhythm of a dance. Sounds about right.

If you would be so kind as to put the dance you choose and a definition of the dance in your author's notes so we can get the rhythm with you, that would be GREAT! And you should also include the element of nature you selected.

THE RULES:

1. Please, no sticky caps
2. Grammar, spelling and punctuation WILL MATTER
3. Please left align
4. No cutting, suicide, self mutilation, etc. etc.
5. Do put the dance of your choice, definition, and nature prompt in your author's notes so we can dance too
6. Please no EROTICA, tastefully sensual is OK
7. Enjoy the dance and breathe life into it!

OK - dance your socks off!

We are really looking for a good time! So don't be surprised if you see either of us enter this contest ourselves. Don't worry, we can't win or place, but we can be inspired by our own contest. Let's all put on our dancing shoes!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on January 12, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 500, Bronze: 250
  • Final notes:
    Hello Dancers!

The time has come to put down your dance cards and line up for the judging.
We will be awarding three trophies.

First of all a word from Blue:

"I'm so appreciative of every poet who took the time
to put their efforts forth under these specific guidelines
    of form, personification, and dance!

Each was a pleasure to read as the rhythms came through.

Special kudos to those who tried this form for the first time.
I hope many found it as inspiring and beautiful as I did not so long ago
when Pam first introduced me to Rispetto.

It was a hard theme to judge due to the creativity of each verse entered.
We had so much fun! Thank-you to all, especially our three winners
    for the dance.

    Blessings, Blue"

I can attest to Blue's words. This was by far an amazing contest with so many
trying their hand for the first time and really moving to the rhythms and sound with
    such wonderfully creative pieces.

You should ALL be very proud of your entries. We sure are and want to thank you for making
this contest so much fun. Great job everyone. It has been a wonderful dance!

Ok - The time has come to give out the prizes.

    GOLD The Woodcock's Fandango
    SILVER Winter Water Waltz
    BRONZE Samba [rispetto]

Great job everyone and congratulations to our winners!

    Until next time...

    Blue and Pamela
