What Do You See Now ? (Round 4)

Look at the prompt picture. Let your eyes settle on it, then try to look through it, focusing just behind it. Let the lines move. Then write me a poem, telling me what you see.

Any style, any length, rhyming or not, it's up to you. Have fun!

Round 4 of a six rounder. If you've entered previous rounds, you may be noticing a progression of colour....

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on January 5, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 9 people
  • Final notes:
What a lot of great work went into this contest. I find it was unfair to have adults competing against youngsters though, and will have to rethink that whole part. Meanwhile, thank you all again.

The picture is called "Flowering". I made it to represent myself, my three sisters and my two brothers. And no, the women are not cut off by the frame, they extend beyond it. If you see the central motif as a flower with six petals, you can then see the "ancestor" figures that surround them, representing my parents, and their parents. These figures all feed into the centre, from which the petals grow. This is an interesting piece because it is made up of two overlapping positive images, and contains no negative space.

So, after four rounds, we have "As the sun rises, life quickens. The green fuse curls, unfurls, climbs high to the sky, to flower... cut to Round 5, posting today. See you there!
