Misconceptions

I was sitting in church this morning and an idea struck: we are full of misconceptions about the Bible. So, I am putting a project together. I would like to create a "book" with all of the misconceptions listed as if it were a real book.

What I want:

Anything you have ever heard that was credited to the Bible, but does not actually exist there. EX: Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Probably no more than six or so lines.

Does not need to rhyme and probably should not.

No bashing of any religion; this is about common misconceptions, not a personal take on whether or not the Bible is sacrosanct.

Anyone who comments with what I deem inappropriate wording will be removed. This goes for comments and entries. I do not remove entries just for not fitting the bill, but I will if they are demeaning.

I would really not like you to put a lot of poetic work into this as I possibly need to rewrite some of them to fit in with the project. I can credit you if it is worded originally; but for the most part, I just want things you have been told or learned over the years.

If any of this is unclear, please feel free to IM me for clarification.

Please watch your language and grammar. I am a stickler for that, but it will not really count in this contest.

Please place your username at the end of the entry, not in the author's notes. I do ignore the entries of those who do not follow this rule. I do not want this to be anonymous, but I am not about to ask a mod to fix it; I should be able to do so myself.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on December 28, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 2 people
  • Final notes:
Thank you all for your entries. The top four gave me what I asked for: misconceptions. The second HM did not, but I could not remove it from the finalists; so, you get a bonus. If you did not make the finalists list, you either gave an example of something actually in the Bible, or you did not sign your name. There is an example of each.

I appreciate your interest and the time you gave me. Congratulations to:

    Again, thank you all.

You are welcome. Do you know the passage that is mentioned in? I tried searching for it, but my memory did not match the quote.
