Hi, I've had some successful contests so I might as well keep making them.
Since where I am it's starting to snow, some of my thoughts have wandered towards the afterlife. I know that many people are getting their decorations out, putting up the tree, are excited about Christmas and the holidays in general. It's all so exciting!
I'm looking forward to visiting with family and friends. I look forward to Christmas every year. This is the first time that I wish Christmas might last a little longer.
The poems that I would like you to write will be focused around death. It centers on the process of dying, what you think happens to our minds and souls in the process. It can be about the memories of someone you loved who has passed on. The only rule is that you express through your words what you believe death is about.
The rules are easy:
Absolutely no pro-suicide poems
Nothing that is horror or morbid
Make it something that you feel
Pour your heart and soul into the poetry
I have been trying to write poems that are filled with hope. There is nothing wrong with putting your spiritual or religious views into the poem. I am a Catholic. This doesn't mean that I don't question death. I probably need more reason to believe in God other than "He is good" or "He will save you"...even though I know it works for some people.
Some of the best poems are ones that weren't thrown together just for the sake of posting. If you want to write a poem that's appealing to the reader, try using various methods.
Here is a place where you can look up different styles of poetry to use. I especially love the Rondeau.

I probably won't comment on all the entries. I promise to read them all and judge them fairly. The poem will be judged on its content, flow, the ability you have to draw the reader in, and if it expresses your emotions and values well. It's an anonymous contest as well.
The gold trophy goes to the most outstanding poem.
I'm looking forward to reading poems about faith, light, and hope. I hope that I will get many entries. The more the merrier.
Thanks to all the people who have entered my other contests. For this contest I am really hoping that everyone will enter.
Some can portray death in a hauntingly beautiful way. In this contest I am looking for powerful poems. Poems that bring hope to death. I also welcome any young poets to enter.

I have written two poems in death and neither of them are hopeful, unfortunately. But my attitude has changed since then, and I see death as the passage way to the only hope, and freedom from pain. I am not sure if I can put my thoughts into words yet, but I will give it a try. Thank you for opening up this opportunity.

I think that there is hope for humanity beyond the darkness. Pain is something that we have to grow accustomed to when we live. The earth is a truly wonderful place. I hope you enter.
