TEN THOUSAND POINTS OF RHYME! (now 12,000) - Part 2 Children's

Sue Cardwell and I (I am Cricketjeff) are partners in rhyme, and we are both rhymers!

We both write in rhyme most of the time and enjoy reading other rhyming poetry.

We feel that rhymers don’t always get the exposure they should on AP so we want to encourage you all to write in rhyme.

Good rhyming poetry uses a steady rhyming pattern and most flow like rainwater on spring flowers, so we want that to, not just a few random words that sound about the same.

To this end, Sue has put up 10,000 points for a series of contests to find the best rhyming poets on AP.

We will start with a 2000 point challenge to write the best Christmas poem on the site, and move through 8 more contests to a grand finale, with another 2000 point contest.

You may enter as few or as many contests as you wish.

If you can RHYME and SCAN these contests are for you

Contest 1 Christmas 2000 points

Contest 2 Children’s 1000 points

============================

Contest 3 Nature 1000 points

Contest 4 Love! 1000 points

Contest 5 Fantasy 1000 points

Contest 6 Sensual 1000 points

Contest 7 Humour 1000 points

Contest 8 Sad/ Nostalgia 1000 points

Contest 9 Feelings 1000 points

GRAND FINALE 2000 points

Each will be a separate contest, so please only post poems pertaining to the subject of that contest.

We will endeavour to interpret the themes quite widely.

Our aim is to see as much really GOOD rhyming poetry as we can.

We encourage you to read all other entries and if you comment in rhyme, Jeff will be giving away bonus prizes as we go!

Rhyming poetry!

===============

A large element of how we judge each round will be on the quality of the rhyme, the flow and the poetry. You are much more likely to win with a well written poem that skirts the topic, than a piece of prose with line breaks that is right on the theme.

CONTEST NUMBER 2

==================

Not a prompt as such this time, the title is

CHILDREN's

===========

You may use the picture provided or one of your own if you wish but no picture is necessary.

Any subject you like is fine as long as the poem is aimed at and suitable for children.
Is there a new Dr Seuss out there? Or a Kipling, Lewis Carroll or indeed anyone who can tickle the taste buds of the twelve and unders?

Melvin the Dragon will be joining us as a guest judge!

Gold 600 points and a trophy

Silver 250 points and a trophy

Bronze 150 points and a trophy

HM’s will be added depending on the quality of the entry!

Rules.

The usual site rules apply.

Please label all poems appropriately. Obviously in this round not only is pornography out but so is sensual.

All the best -- Now Get Rhyming

Non-rhyming poetry will be DQ'd at once, good poets can read!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on December 12, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 600, Silver: 250, Bronze: 150, Honorable mention: 4 people
  • Final notes:
    Thank-you all very much for a superb batch of poems. Poetry for children is a special art and so important for producing the next generation of APers. We got a good variety of interpretations of the theme, funny, bedtime story and poems about children.
    The Gold and Silver stood out from the rest but all the finallists were very good and many of those who didn't make the final were very close to it.
    We have added four HMs to reflect the high standards.

    Please come back and enter our later rounds, the Nature contest is already underway.

    Thanks again
    Jeff and Sue

    I applaud you on what you are doing, rhyme doesn't get the recognition it deserves (usually because pompous arrogant people who only write free verse because they don't have the skill to rhyme deride it so easily. Not that I'm saying all free verse writers are like this, in fact most aren't at all. Sorry for the little rant).

    I will happily donate points as well

    The nature one sounds like my kind of thing...maybe sad, love and feelings too...

    Good luck!
