#3 Black Hole Sun: The End is Near

I have been listening to "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden on repeat for around six hours now. Around five hours and fifty-five minutes, I got to thinking about its meaning. It's obviously about the apocalypse. I decided then to start a contest dedicated to this subject.

The end of the world...armageddon...apocalypse...
What do you see?

So the contest is really simple. Write me about the end of the world. It doesn't have to be sad or dark, because a lot of laughter can come out of tragedy (Dr. Strangelove for example), so make it any genre you want. You can write about what brought about it (like what we did as a human race) or maybe even something about the aftermath of armageddon. Whatever it is, make sure it's about it.

Prizes:
1st Place: Gold Trophy and 400 Points
2nd Place: Silver Trophy and 100 Points
3rd Place: Bronze Trophy and 75 Points

Honorable Mentions may be added depending on the number of entries

Now, some rules. Yes I know, but it's only because the FCC is making me:
1. You are allowed to curse (take that FCC!)
2. You are allowed to make religious references (I mean, it's in the bible after all). Just don't try to convert me. I'm going through a very atheist period right now. Don't mess with me!
3. Don't write just about society. I love soceital poems, but if you want to write about what's wrong with the human race, make sure it includes something about our eventual demise.
4. No AiM tAlK oR iLl SeRiOuSlY sMiTe YoU pErSoNaLlY
5. Prewrites are allowed
6. You are allowed more than one entry
7. In your authors notes, write the phrase "We Think, therefore He is." If you don't write it, you will be DQ'ed.
8. Check your grammer and spelling, please. I'm begging you. T_____T
9. EDIT: I know some of you have added already (you guys are the only exceptions) but I would like the poems to be no more than 45 lines not including spaces. I'm sorry, I just don't have that type of attention span.
10. I think that's it???...

Anyways, good luck to all of you, and I hope to read some good pieces.

See you Space Cowboy!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on December 28, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 100, Bronze: 75, Honorable mention: 3 people
  • Final notes:
Sorry it took so long to finish judging. I had a little trouble finding time to actually judge it. I got a job that's been taking up a whole lot of my time, and my schoolwork's been getting in the way. So once again, I apologize.

Anyway, I was really amazed at the entries I got. I'm not just saying this. Every entry was astounding. I saw entries from every genre, with every kind of writing style imaginable. It was really tough choosing finalists, since I had so many at one point ( I think I had 12 at one point). I have this rule about only having 3 HM's. It's just a code of life I live by. So congratualations to all of the winners, and to all of the other writers, good luck in the future. You all have amazing talent, and should work on your crafts to improve that talent even more. You never know, the next contest you enter could be the one that wins you that gold trophy. Then you can gloat to everyone you know.

See you all in the future. I am out!

I did the same thing with Fell on black days by sound garden, it started with Black hole sun and then migrated to Fell on black days. I have been hooked on that song for the past few weeks. I thought I shook it and then I saw this contest. So... I definitely feel ya.

Bookmarked for now. I will see if I can pen something.

And though my poems say Part 1 and 3, they are also stand alone poems.
